I'm planning a trip for August and was looking into Port Orleans because I have a family of 5, Could I rent points for Port Orleans or does it have to be in your home base. Also online it would cost me only $ 709 plus tax for 4 nights/5 days, is that cheaper then renting points from someone. Thanks...

Welcome to the DIS!

I've moved your questions to the DVC Board, since that is a better place for answers to general DVC questions. (Once you have specific dates and know the resort and room type you want, please repost your request on the Rent/Trade Board.)

Especially when renting, the best value for using DVC points is at DVC resorts. In most cases, you can find a 1BR villa- with full kitchen, washer/dryer, King bed and jacuzzi tub- forless cost than a moderate resort. If you have your heart set on a moderate like Port Orleans, you will usually be able to find equal or better rates directly thru Disney- especially on weekends. With a family of five, a room with a trundle bed at Port Orleans may meet your needs better unless you want to try a 2BR villa at a DVC resort- which would offer a LOT more space to enjoy, regardless of the resort.

Either way, you'll have a great trip to WDW!

Enjoy!

Thank You for your response.. We still have not made our decision yet on where we will stay.. We are looking at the last week of August... The 25th to 29th.. If anyone has points for that week, I'm willing to discuss it..

I'm sorry, but I'm new to this board. You stated to psot my request in the rent/trading forum, and I'm unable to find it on you website. Could you please tell me how to get there to post my request.

Just to give you something to work with, Studio accommodations at Old Key West would "cost" 68 points for the period you listed. OKW tends to be the cheapest DVC property, but it has the largest guest rooms and many think it's one of the nicest resorts in the program.

68 points will run you about $680 as a rental.

The accommodations will be far better than a moderate resort guest room. More square footage. Balcony. In-room kitchenette. Two queen beds.

However, be aware that the maximum occupancy for a Studio or 1 Bedroom DVC accommodations is 4 adults plus 1 child under age 3. If all five members of your party are over age 3, you would need to jump up to a DVC 2 Bedroom suite. The accommodations are even better yet than a Studio (king bed plus two queens, full kitchen, in-room washer-dryer, whirlpool tub, dining area, larger balcony which accommodates a table + 4 chairs, etc.) But the 2B will run you 182 points for the dates you listed.

Note that DVC rooms cost quite a bit more on Friday and Saturday nights, both of which are included in the dates you posted. If you were to switch your stay so that the nights all fell between Sunday and Thursday at the end of August, four nights in a Studio would run you 40 points, while the 2B would be 108 pts.

Good luck.
