I'm sure this topic has been discussed many times before, so I apologize for a repeat question as I want to confirm what I think I *may* understand.

We currently own at AKV. We would like to add - on, but are considering another resort.

I am pretty sure that if I add on thru Disney and buy at BLT then I can transfer the points from membership to membership without using my one time transfer. However, if I purchase a resale then I have to use my transfer at the 7 month mark to move points from one membership to another. Is that correct? I had read on another thread that if I purchased the resale with my same use year then there are ways around that. Is that a true statement?

Also, how hard is it to manage 2 home resorts. Is it really worth it in the end or too much of a hassle to do? We love AKV now, but thinking ahead (many, many years) to grandchildren, I'm sure we'd prefer the option of BLT. It seems you have to own there to get what you want. We had thought about BWV or BC, but the end date of the contract doesn't appeal to us. We'd prefer the longer use of the membership.

So basically, what would you recommend. Adding on thru Disney with their premium prices, or purchased an add'l contract via resale?

Sorry for rambling. I just thought that others have done this already and could provide some insight. I'd like to have all of my facts before I continue to hound the hubby!

Thanks in advance for helping!

How you use points from 2 different "home resorts" doesn't change depending on if you buy direct or through resale.

You can combine points at the 7 month, and it's not considered a transfer (assuming they share the same UY.) If they are not the same UY, then it's considered the same as if it were two different owners, and the one transfer either in or out rule applies.

A lot of people will bank and/or borrow (as an example) AKV points in order to double them and have an 11-month advantage - EOY, and then do the same for BLT (or wherever else they own.)

That way if you have 100 points at each, you're still getting 200 points to use every year. You'll just be going to a different resort EOY.

This is correct. If the deeds are titled exactly the same and are the same UY, they will be in the same account and you can move points back and forth without transfering. That's the way our accounts are, one purchased resale and the other purchased direct. You'll have two account numbers, like xxxxxx.000 and xxxxxx.001.

Just be sure you title the accounts exactly the same -- look at your first deed or purchasing documents to be sure.

Obviously home resort booking preference still applies, so if you have two home resorts, you will have two 11 month windows and will only be able to combine points within 7 months of arrival.

And if you can't find what you want with the right UY resale, palaemon's suggestion of using the two accounts every other year is an excellent fix.

Have you stayed at BLT yet? Even with it's close proximity to MK, it has turned out to be our families least favorite WDW resort.

Depends what you want. Personally I think LV is the sweet spot w/ regard to points and view quality, and it's commonly available.

In a similar situation a couple of years ago, we decided to just add on at AKV. Juggling two resorts didn't seem worthwhile, since we were considering a small add on.

I might suggest taking a look at AKV resales in your use year.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

No, we haven't stayed at BLT just yet. It also doesn't really appeal to me like SSR or AKV does. But I can't honestly say we wouldn't enjoy it since we've never stayed there. We intend to tour it again in January when we are at BWV. We are considering staying an extra night to try it out.

Anyway - thanks again. We're defiantely going to look at purchasing another contract. Haven't decided if we'll do the same use year (we have February and have been making some January trips, so I'd rather a different use year for those trips) so we can put them under one membership, or if we will just buy a resale with a totally different use year and use the banking and borrowing.

I would recommend staying at BLT before buying there. We had toyed with the idea of a BLT add-on because of the longer years, and the proximity to MK. After staying there last month, we are glad we didn't buy there. I know some people love it, but it was just OK for us.

Forgive me possibly causing thread-drift, but I'm a brand-new DVC member. . . and I'm just curious why it matters what your home resort is, as this thread discusses. I mean, we bought in at BLT, but we don't have any plans to *ever* stay there; the Magic Kingdom is our least-favorite park. We just booked a week in March at BCV and didn't have any problems at all.

So -- if you'll forgive a newbie question -- why does it matter where your actual ownership is, whether Animal Kingdom, BLT, or anywhere else? What am I not seeing?

The ability to make reservations at 11 months instead of 7. You lucked out being able to make a reservation at BCV. That's normally a tough reservation to get, especially at peak times, at the 7 month mark.

Out of curiosity, if you had no plans to *ever* stay at BLT, couldn't you have saved a substantial sum of money (or gotten more points) buying SSR (or OKW) resale instead? :confused3

Ummmm. . . I have no idea. Since we're newbies to this whole thing, we simply went with all of the documentation we received from Disney. And the only pricing sheet we got was for BLT; that led me to assume that that was the only resort they were currently selling. (But I also wasn't inclined to spend a lot of time digging into resales or anything like that. Since we're new to DVC as well as timeshares in general, I wasn't looking to stray off the beaten path of working directly with Disney and the sales rep we were referred to.)

Oh, and I'll add that I only just discovered *this* site today.
