Needed: Top Secret Blister Prevention Methods

I don't think enough can be said for getting yourself in condition BEFORE the trip. Start walking! Then use the shoes that you walk in at home to walk in at the parks.

If none of the above works - Look directly at your feet, speak firmly and forcefully and remind your feet that you are at Disneyworld and that not everyone gets to go to Disneyworld. They should be grateful. They should feel lucky to be there and not back in (insert your local weather conditions here) in (insert your local city/town/parish/township/state) at (insert usual daily activity such as work/school/hobby), and then tell them to get their act together, stop causing all these problems, and to have fun!

The stuff I posted about from AVON smells like peppermint and it is not very strong. It really worked for me and the tub lasts a long time. I have enough left for at least 2 more trips.

Thanks,
Frank

These are all really good ideas but I think the duct tape sounds the most interesting, do you just put the duct tape where you think you might blister? or do you just wrap your foot in it?

My father would be very proud if I found another use for duct tape

Just tear a size to cover your heel if you blister there or on the bottom of your feet, etc. My little toe usually rubs so I put the tape around my toe and it doesnt even get warm as if a hot spot was forming. When we went to the parks last year a single application lasted all day and would not peel off!!!Make sure the tape is long enough so that it doesnt roll up on the edges. This way you dont have to worry about different socks and creams and powder. Make sure you use fresh socks each day. I wore my same shoes for 6 days (since they stayed dry from the rain) and had no problem. :earsboy:

I appreciate any and all tips to make my trip more comfortable. Moleskin has been helpful but I'm always looking for info. I was wondering if people prefer deodorant or anti-perspirant, and if there's a recommended brand?

:flower: I went in June and the thought of putting socks and sneakers on my feet was just suffocating!!!!!....
I just bought a really good pair of sandals and never got one blister!!!!
We were only there for 4 days but we were in the parks from the time they opened till they closed!!!

here are the sandals I wore....http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=203705

Had to buy another pair for next year at that price!!!!!! :cool1:

Paras4ri...I haven't tried it yet, but I understand antiperspirant works much better than deodorant. I've also heard any brand works fine, but again I haven't tried any yet. I'll know next week when we get there and I give it a try.

I went to our local theme park, Six Flags Great America, with my daughter and my cousin's daughter and walked around the park at least 2 1/2 times. It's nowhere near WDW proportions but I tried out some new socks that were cool max and padded on the bottom. Unfortunately, there was a place on the toe area that rubbed some. I also found a store which sells blistershield and I drove out there after the trip to the park today and they were closed. I'm trying to get all of this stuff done while my very smart 11 yr old is away at camp so he doesn't suspect the surprise WDW trip.

I usually have problems with toe blisters, so I found these socks made with cool max and they work great, a little pricey but worth it, http://walking.about.com/od/socks/gr/injinjisocks.htm so between these socks with walking shoes and my Tevas I hope I don't get any blisters this trip, REI sells these socks btw, I also have Blister shield powder, haven't tried that yet as I just bought it, now I'm wondering if I should pu the Bodyglide.

I heard that the Blister shield powder with socks and sneakers is GREAT! I have Blistershield roll on and Bodyglide and I usually use the Bodyglide on my feet and the Blistershield for chafing. The Bodyglide is more like a solid deoderant and Blistershield is more liquidy. I didn't have any blisters or chafing.

I'd stick with the Blistershield powder for your sneakers/socks as I've heard its really really good. For sandals, you may want to try the Blistershield roll on or Bodyglide to reduce friction/hot spots.

Thanks Beattyfamily for the info, I just ordered some bodyglide on line since no one around here carries it. Thanks again.

It's funny hearing people talking about how Teva's saved them from blisters because my Teva's are the only things that have ever caused blisters on my feet. As someone else stated, try things out before you go because each persons feet are different.

One other piece of advice is on sneakers. If you wear a comfy pair of sneakers:
a)Try to wear more breathable styles of sneakers like "running shoes", as opposed to "tennis shoes". The big difference is that running shoes usually have more mesh which allow more breathing and less moisture buildup. The only problem is that they also allow more water in from rain/water rides, so bring an extra pair of shoes.
b)Don't wear shoes that are too old. Shoes are designed to be worn for x number of miles depending on the type of shoe. The number for most running shoes is from 350-550 miles(the lower end of the spectrum is for larger people, smaller people at the high end)..most other types of shoes have a slightly lower range. After that time frame, they can actually harm your feet. So don't wear a pair of shoes that you have been wearing everyday for the past 2 years. Chances are, they are no longer suitable for a high mileage day at a Disney park. My personal preference for running shoes are Asics (they have some very comfy gel cushioning that they put in most of their shoes).

My feet get sore very quickly, so I have had to try out different shoes and methods and these were some additional things that I had found that weren't mentioned yet. Hope that helps. :wave2:

As far as shoes go to prevent blisters...well everyone's feet are different, what might be great for one is terrible for another. Personally for me I switch between Mephisto sandals and Nike sneakers (not full leather, the ones that have the breathable fabric inset into them) and pure cotton foot socks, the old fashioned kind - LOL! I also powder my fet with a foot powder called T for Toes from Lush. It keeps feet very comfortable and dry...the best I have used.

Foot treatment I know about. Contrary to what others do, Ice cold water is the best for hot tired swollen feet. You can actually get ice from the ice machine and put it in the tub and soak your feet...the colder the better. This will reduce swelling and redmarks basically will shrink and cool your fet back to their normal size. Smooth on a calming foot cream and put on a pair of socks. Elevate your feet under a few pillows, and you should be good to go.

Ill fitting shoes and socks cause blisters, AND can also cause leg, back and hip pain. So get the best shoes you can get. I know most think sneakers are too hot, but if you get the right ones for you, you will have great support, not blisters and cool feet.

Well this works for me anyway, maybe it will help someone else :earsgirl:

I too am famous for my WDW blisters. Every trip I get at least 4 or 5 blisters per foot. From tips I found here, I bought cool max type socks for last weeks trip. I wore my socks with tennis shoes and my Crocs which I bought for the trip. I did not wear socks with the Crocs since I have the sandal type. I alternated my Crocs and 2 differents pairs of tennis shoes and used moleskin on hotspots. I was there for 7 days and did not get one blister. I did have really sore toes on the last day but I think that is better than being covered in blisters. I looked for Bodyglide but could not find it.

I have always had trouble with my feet, blisters, hammer toes, etc.

I find that Brooks or Sacony running shoes work best for me.

Most important for blisters for me is Thorlo socks. I have tried all different brands but these work best. They are kind of pricey, around $10.00 per pair but they are definitely work it.
