Hi, we are going to Disney World in June. We are trying to decide between Saratoga or Old Key West. We like the ability to walk to downtown disney if you're on the right end of the resort. Never have stayed at Old Key West. Please let us know what you think.

We loved OKW. We thought it definitely had the biggest rooms and patio. We had a car and loved the fact that we could drive right up to our unit. I thought the resort was very pretty. We loved Olivias.

Overall we prefer OKW but there are situations where SSR is better. SSR is closer to DD and works better without a car. OKW has larger units and 2 queens in the second BR/Studio and has near front door parking. OKW is also less points for a similar size unit. Either would be fine.

SSR you can walk to DTD. OKW you can take a boat. I say try OKW this trip.

Worthwhile trying a 1BR+ at OKW, just because they are the biggest at WDW.

We like both resorts, but we prefer OKW. The resort is lovely, room sizes are bigger, two beds (not bed and sofa), laid back feeling of the resort and lower points needed.

Again Ditto! We've stayed at both. The magic words are "laid back feeling." Saratoga Springs is nice and I'm glad that we stayed there. However back at OKW and Conch Flats we really feel relaxed, like we're on a vacation.

Like both resorts but OKW is not only my home resort but also my favorite. The lush landscaping and the balconies (even in June) do it for me! SSR, however is a little closer to DTD.

When I am walking around or to Downtown Disney, I love SSR more. When I am in my room or on the balcony, I love OKW more. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

you could just pick one.:
"the ability to walk to downtown disney"
or
having "never have stayed at Old Key West", trying it out. as much as i love ssr, especially that beautiful walk to dtd:cloud9:, i'm a firm believer in trying out different resorts ~ you'll never know know what you're missing unless you do.

or......

a suggestion: if you are going for a longer stay, split your vacation, staying at a new resort for the first part (it can be only a few days) & the tried-and-true resort for the end of your stay.
we've stayed at almost every resort (excluding values) this way, & found some new favorites (including some that we would stay at for a different type of vacation), as well as some we most prob won't return to.
enjoy:)

Exactly what I was going to say! You have to try everything once! One of the great benefits of DVC ownership.

Between those two I'd have to say SSR for 2 reasons. 1) because I really like it - it's much newer and I think it's quite nice and 2) I don't like OKW. Have fun either way!!

Saratoga Springs is much better. I've stayed at OKW twice (the second time was because we couldn't get into any other resort), and didn't care for the rooms. The furniture was worn, the room wasn't incredibly clean and it was difficult for me to sleep because there are only blinds there instead of curtains. Plus, bugs liked to congregate around the light outside of the front door so whenever I opened the door, bugs would fly in. Saratoga Springs is a new resort, it was clean, no bugs, basically the opposite of OKW. The rooms are smaller than OKW but I would rather stay in a smaller room that looks new, fresh and clean than an older, large, dirty, worn and stale room.

What better opportunity to try a new resort? If you've never stayed at OKW, I say stay there. :goodvibes

Actually, I've stayed both several times. I still have the same question every time. We usually choose OKW, this is why:

1. family of 6 larger rooms greatly appreciated
2. rent a car & love that you can park so close to your unit.
3. lush landscape
4. quieter
5. full size washer & dryers (not stackables)
6. I enjoy the balconys both resorts, but again with a large family the 2 bedroom balconies are much larger at OKW.

Btw, I think I've always had blinds and curtains...atleast in the bedrooms.

I have to agree though SSR has a newer fresher feel too it. Balconies at night seem to have a more active/exciting feel. Where as OKW is indead more "laid back"

Whatever you decide, have a GREAT trip.
