Need your help - small town farm stand/bake shop

White chocolate covered popcorn with seasonal sprinkles or colored sugar. So easy to make and people think you’re a genius!

A variation on this would be Alton Brown's White Trash. The recipe makes a LOT, simple ingredients. I send this for Christmas each year, plus I would bring it to dance recitals (for backstage). Believe me, if I showed up without it, I would have been banned--and I was one of three seamstresses! I make it with Cinnamon Chex instead of the two types of plain Chex he calls for. You could change up the M&M colors seasonally. It does contain nuts.

I think any type of bread goes over well. I've also seen people make their own granola and that also does well. Maybe jellies, jams, or apple butter if she knows how to make any of those. Good luck to your daughter. I wish there were little farm stands in my area. We just have the farmer's markets on the weekends but those are still fun.

Love the idea of granola - thank you!!

One thing I absolutely LOVE but can never find is apple turnovers. I found decent ones at a grocery store near me, but if I found a place with good homemade ones I would be a customer for life!

That's awesome she sold out already—congrats to her! I'd love to see lemon bars, mini pies (like apple or cherry), or maybe even banana bread slices. Also homemade fudge would be chef’s kiss!

As her success grows, she could consider looking for local specialty bakers who might make things for her to sell. The apple turnovers reminded me of when I lived rural. There was a dairy farm that also had an apple orchard. They had a small pie shop--very well-known in the area, but not on a main road. A local farm stand sold their pies sold their pies.

Similarly, I think I've mentioned here before, our electrician owned a maple tree farm. His syrup was sold at several local shops. To the best of my knowledge, he didn't sell retail himself. But, your DD could look for similar small businesses in her area that would be appropriate for a symbiotic relationship (maybe in a couple years, if she's just getting started).

Gave me chills reading what you just wrote - how ironic is this..... my oldest DD, not the one doing this farmstand, lives on a very large maple tree farm! My youngest DD does sell her syrup, maple cream and maple cotton candy at her farmstand.

As if that was ironic enough, starting this weekend my DD will be selling her items just down the road at the local apple orchard who is part of her family. They are very well known for their maple creemees along with their apple pies. Since her stand isn't air conditioned she is teaming up with her father in law at his well known orchard stand to sell her items there.

That's exactly the sort of thing I was thinking! We live in North Carolina now, but when we get back to upstate NY, we shop for local favorites that we miss. We're a science family, so we even do taste tests--Saratoga County syrup versus Ulster County syrup versus Canadian syrup (DH visits Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for business about once a year). All in the interest of science, you understand.

Oh these ideas are great - thank you everyone!

She is staying away from pies and canned goods only because there are a few spots in town that sell those items.

She has a bunch of apple/pear/peach trees so things really pick up once they are ready :)

that's funny. my husband prefers them with raisins and I prefer them with raisins AND apples. he also prefers them not iced
