Need Yorkshire pudding help

Sometimes my popovers don't "pop" and I end up with a more pudding-like pudding instead of an airy one. Still love them- they are kind of like the insides of French toast (not to confuse your project culture, LOL!), all eggy-buttery goodness. I wish I'd been at your house to eat the "failed" puddings. Crispy or not, I bet they were yummy!

Awww, what a cute puppy!

I had thought about scones, but thought they would be too difficult (before I knew how hard Yorkshire pudding would be...). The malt vinegar would have been a great idea, and definitely British!

I ended up making the shortbread. Three ingredients, 20 minutes in the oven. I only broke two of them getting them out of the pan. They taste like Lorna Doone's! Wish I had just done this from the beginning!

I wonder what British moms would make if they had to make something "American." Apple pie? Chocolate chip cookies?

Thanks again for the help!
You made a good choice. :thumbsup2 Cold Yorkshire Pudding with jam really would't have been an "authentic" British experience anyway, no matter how hard you tried. Have you personally never had a piece of shortbread before? I don't know what Lorna Doone's are so I hope they're supposed to be similar! :rotfl:

Yeah, the allegedly traditional recipe my mom used had beef drippings in the yorkshire pudding dough, so that would not be good with jam. DD has adapted it to vegetable oil since she is vegetarian but she used to love my mom's recipe when she was still eating meat.
