i weigh around 315 or so now and im 6'1 and i want to get down to 270 or so for dw in dec so i can actully walk without getting tired right away and be able to enjoy my stay there. I am starting herbalife program this next week and i am going to cut out all sweets or as much as i can. I eat out alot and i dont like salad so that kind of hinders me somewhat. i heard once eating soup nothing but soup and crackers will make you lose weight. I also drink alot of pop and i need to cut down and drink more water and other things. any help would be greatly appreacited and anything any advice or anything you can offer

Obesity is a very critical and serious issue, and I think it requires a very critical and serious approach. Soup diets and such aren't sound approaches to addressing this issue.

There are a number of diet approachs that have merit, ranging in a spectrum from ultra-low fat to low-carb, medically-supervised liquid fasts to totally non-processed foods diets. Any of these approaches can "work." However, what research shows is that losing weight by diet alone is ineffective. Most every member of the National Weight Control Registry report combining diet and exercise as key to their weight-loss success and their weight-management success.

Definitely consult with your doctor. I don't believe in self-medicating with issues this serious! If you're not getting the support you feel you need from your medical professionals, then find other medical professionals!

I just wanted to say that I think the Herbalife program is not the best idea unless you have spoken with your doctor. Those are "quick fixes" that really don't help you long term not to mention the health risks that come along with products like that. I truly think the best thing to do is investigate all of the various programs, Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Calorie Counting, Eating Sensibly, etc. Until you find the one that you think you can stick with. Soup and crackers all the time might work but you can't do that forever and for weight loss to work it has to be a lifestyle change or the weight will creep right back on. WISH journals are a great place to see various programs as well as the various posts on WISH. We are a diverse group of people on all different plans and it proves that they ALL will work - if you do them properly. ::yes:: Additionally, you have to work exercise in at some point just as Bicker mentioned. Even if you start REALLY slow with a 5 minute walk and increase it as you can. That will also help your stamina when you get to WDW! Best of luck - I know you can do it!!

i used herbalife once before and had a good weight loss with it but then i think my biggest problem is one of my meds slows down my metabolism and once i get back on my other meds i will lose some again. I did before because i had more energy i slept better at night so i didnt sleep as long and so forth. I couldnt do atkins or those others they make you eat nasty food and all the junk i see they make you go through. My problem is i dont excersise and i sit around the house all the time and i also eat out all the time. which is bad. I have to do a diet where i can eat real food or i cant stick to it. i dont have will power i guess lol. i think im going to start going to the gym in our complex here and work out a few days a week and go swiming as well for starters. i need to get use to walking though. I could go down to the country club plaza and walk around at least there i have somewhere to go not just a street. I could start at one end and tell myself i want to go to barnes & nobles on the other end and insted of driving i could walk. and then walk to the theater and then somewhere else. Its a start and gives me a goal or something to look at and i see people doing it all the time down there.

Hello! I don't have any really specific advise for you other than that you should probably start out by talking to your doctor, especially before you start a new exercise routine. But I just wanted to say I wish you well with your journey to great health!

This board is great for support. People here are achieving results with all kinds of different weight loss/fitness strategies. It sounds like you have given a lot of thought to your situation. You know your likes and dislikes and your strengths and weaknesses.
This is great because it will help you come up with a plan that you can live with. For me, that is the biggest thing--being on a plan that I can stick with for the long haul. I know you will find what works for you; just don't be tempted to do a quick-fix because (if you're like me and most other people) the fix will be quick but will become un-fixed even quicker when it's something you can't really live with!

One more thing I will add is that I really do think exercise is key. On the days I exercise (generally 6 days per week--it was hard to stick to that at first but it has become part of my life and is just routine now) I am MUCH better about eating sensibly than when I skip exercise. I think you have already come up with some great strategies to get yourself out and walking. Your Barnes & Noble idea is wonderful. I think you'll find that your fitness level will improve quickly if you do lots of walking! Exercise doesn't have to be terribly strenuous for you to see results, just consistent! :)

Best wishes. I hope you will post here often!
