need VMK help for a friend

my friend is trying to join VMK and she says she only gets a black screen after the updating bar. She has a dell laptop and what i believe is cable internet though i am not sure. she has yet to even enter VMK for the first time. she created a character during the opening week of tomorrowland and has tried once a day since to get in and has had no luck. is there anyone out there who may be able to anwer the question of why she is having problems?

Has she tried to uninstall and reinstall Shockwave? Is she getting any errors at all like maybe it could be her firewall?

she uses mozilla firefox, and she thinks she has nortan antivirus... i'd look for her but she lives in loisiana and i am in oregon and she did reinstall shockwave ,with her friends help.
