Need Vacuum Advice

Love my Dyson animal!!! I do wipe out the intake each time I empty the bin, no problems with loss of suction!

I wanted a canister vac, so I finally took the plunge and bought a Dyson DC23 Motorhead when Kohls had it on 'sale' and I had a 30% off with free shipping. I love it.

We bought a dyson animal 3 years ago and we love it. Oh forgot my husband does all the vacuuming, but he really likes it and we have had no poblems with it.

I own two Dysons an upright and The first hand held one they came out with a few years ago. I love them both and never a problem.

I have a Dyson and I HATE it. Did I mention that I hate it? It, how can I put this? it s_ _ _ s at sucking.......I am anxiously awaiting the day that it dies and I can get a new one.

Have you taken the tubes off an cleaned it? Mine wasn't sucking well so I called and they walked me through how to clean it...found tissues, a game piece, a napkin and a pen! Afterward it was perfect. We now clean it when the suction seems bad, I've had it for 5 years (Dyson Animal) and I really do like it. I have two labs so it has worked hard. It's heavy so I did have to get a second vacuum for upstairs and the attachments I thought were hard to use until I used my sister's Bissel Pet Hair and it's a lot easier to use than that!

Maybe we are just hard on vacuums at our house but for a while we were replacing vacuums about every 18 months. We had a dirt devil, a hoover, a kenmore, some I've forgotten and an Oreck. The Oreck didn't even have a wand attachment and it didn't seem as powerful at the Oreck my parents have. We finally bought a Dyson and that thing is amazing! And it has lasted longer than any vacuum we've had.

I think I used a Bed Bath and Beyond coupon when I bought it.

Good luck!

I have the Dyson Ball upright. Hate it hate it hate it. I hate having to dump it after every use, the dirt sticks inside so I have to shake it or stick my hand or a rules up it to loosen the dirt, and it goes all over the place. The handle for doing the floors is way too short(Im a very average 5'5) it has no ability to reduce suction in order to go over small area rugs without demolishing them, the stairs attachment is a joke, so I have to use the fabric brush attachment on the stairs and get on my hands and knees to do stairs. Because the suction is so strong, the hose constantly wants to recoil and fight against you. It constantly pinches my hand when trying to do the stairs. When you do the floors, the machine either comes flying across the room and hits you when you use the floor brush on the hose extension attachment, or it doesn't stretch far enough if you turn the unit around so it doesn't fly across the room as you move forward.

All of these things in isolation seem like minor, petty complaints, but put it all together and it just infuriates me like nothing else!:sad2: Way overpriced. What I wouldn't do for a canister vac with a bag!

I recently researched and bought a Hoover Windtunnel. If I had more money, I would've gotten the Meile (sp?) as they get great ratings, are quieter, have longer cords, etc.

I really like the research Consumer Reports does, and the Windtunnel is one of the highest rated vacuums. The Dyson's don't perform that well in their tests, but I know a lot of people really like them. I got the Windtunnel on sale at Kohl's and got Kohl's cash back, so it was only about $120 in the end and it is an awsome vacuum - even self-propelled.

Good luck!

Hated my Dyson. Actually had two - returned the first because it didn't suck - returned the second because it didn't suck. The first one we owned six months, it was in the shop four times, and was never fixed.

Love my Meile (mine is the canister), but they aren't cheap. They are like the BMW of vaccuum cleaners. Like my 15 year old Oreck, too.

We looked at Dyson, but Consumer Reports rates them pretty low (40, when the range was 38 to 65). So we got our old kirby repaired instead. So far it has worked out well.

A lot of great comments. I am still trying to figure this out. I spoke with some friends today and this is very subjective. You can get a great vacuum or a dud - it appears to be the roll of the dice.:)

I have the Shark Navigator - love, love, love it. Read the reviews on Amazon. :goodvibes

Just got mine and i love it...I got the one with the removable canister at Kohls $169 plus 30% discount coupon and free shipping..:)
I have also owned a Rainbow for probably 14 years, that still runs well but one of the latches I need to have fixed...actually I think if I had taken better care of it it could have easily lasted 20 years with no issues.:goodvibes

I have had my Dyson for 6 years, and it still works great! I have never had a vac that lasted this long. I love the ball, and I love the crazy-long cord.It remains one of my best investments for the home!:thumbsup2

I can't even remember when we bought our Dyson Animal - it's been at least 6 years! It works like a champ still. I love that I can see all the gook that it gets up and I have to empty it everytime I use it.

I had previously owned a Hoover Windtunnel (it used bags) that I thought worked great so I did a test when I brought home my new Dyson. I vacuumed the floor with my windtunnel and went back over it with the Dyson to see if I wanted to keep it or not. I was SHOCKED that there was still a bunch of stuff picked up by the dyson although I had just vacuumed. That sold it to me and I've been happy with it ever since.

It does sound like there are some duds out there as there are with any product unfortunately. I can only vouch for mine that I love it and it still 'sucks' like a champ all these years later!
