I'm still trying to figure out use years. My favorite time to go to WDW is (well - anytime really) September-December. I've also gone in January (to watch the marathon) and in May (for the triathlon).

But I guess the Oct.-Dec. time would be when I would use DVC the most. So which use year should I look for?

If I look for Dec., does that mean I can book in January for the following Dec? If I decided I wanted to go in Jan., would I have any chance of getting a room if my use year is Dec.

I hope that makes sense to you, because it's all greek to me, right now.

I think September would work for you. The last (25%) banking deadline would be June 30th, and you don't seem to want to go in the summer.

The use year doesn't affect when you can make ressies, it's when the points are actually put into your account. No matter what use year you have, you can make a ressie at your home resort 11 months out and at other resorts 7 months out, provided you will have points to use for when you're making the reservations. The points you use can be from your banked reserve, or borrowed from the next use year.

I hope this helps, there are others who explain it better.

Use year has nothing to do with booking. You can make a reservation at your home resort 11 months ahead with points that will be available on your date of stay (not the date of booking). I would go with September if you will be staying most often Sept-Dec. You would be able to bank 100% of your points by 2/28, 50% by 5/31, 25% by 6/30. So you would still be in your 50% window if you cancel a May trip (more than 30 days ahead).

I'm new here, not an expert, but I know there's the 60 day rule. If I remember correctly, (please check the DVC website), you can't travel within the last 60 days unless you've made the ressies prior to that time. So you wouldn't want an October or November uy. If you have a September uy & you travel in September, you'd be at the beginning of your uy, so all should be OK.

Any veterans out there, feel free comment.

Hopefully, this will sink in! :)

Not quite true.

The above ONLY applies to destinations OTHER than the DVC resorts. If you want to use points to stay at (for example) the Grand Floridian, or one of the non-Disney resorts in the Concierge or Adventurer Collection, it must be booked more than 60 days before the end of the Use Year.

Stays at DVC resorts have no such limitation.

To the OP, an August or September Use Year will work fine for you. I'd avoid December, Feburary and March .
