Need travel advice for cruise

I am looking for some travel advice for our 7 night Caribbean cruise in March 2016 leaving from Port Canaveral. We are flying to Orlando Sanford the day before on Allegiant airline. We can get a direct flight from Knoxville to Sanford and the price just can't be beat for our group of 4. We are staying at the Residence Inn Cape Canaveral the night before (but can change hotels if needed). We will be flying back from Sanford to Knoxville in the evening on the day we disembark so no hotel stay needed on the way back. FYI: we have tried driving to and from a cruise and it was awful. I get a little land sickness on the way back and I was miserable, so driving is not an option.

My plan is to get a rental car at Sanford and drive to Port Canaveral. Rental options at Sanford are Avis, Enterprise, Alamo, Thrifty and Dollar. I would like to avoid paying for a week on a rental car plus parking fees at the port for a week. Can we turn in the rental car at the port and get transport to the terminal somehow? We would also have to rent a car on the day we disembark to get back to Orlando Sanford. The flight is in the evening so we'll have plenty of time to get back.

Yes, the car rental agencies near the port all offer free transportation to the ship when you drop off your car there. They will also pick you up at the ship when you rent a car for the return.

Sounds good. That will save us about $600!

It's also easier to use the rental car to drop off the rest of the family and luggage at the ship then just the driver return the car and take the shuttle back.
