Our Eastern Caribbean cruise for November 18th just got changed to western Caribbean and I’m trying to book excursions. A tour of the Kohunlich Ruins in Costa Maya is listed on the listed on the DCL site but not listed as an option for a port adventure for this particular cruise. I assume this is because this itinerary was changed last minute due to the hurricanes. Anyway, does anyone have a recommendation for a tour company other than DCL to take a tour to the Kohunlich Ruins?

which one is better? the chacchoben ruins or the Kohunlich?

I have only been to the Chacchobe Ruins. Maybe you can email Native Choice and ask them which they'd recommend. The Kohunlich tour is 2 hours longer. I'm not sure if that's because it's further or because there is more to see. Not sure how much time you have in port so that may also be a consideration for you.

You won't be able to do the Kohunlich ruins with The Native Choice. You are only in port for 5 hours. There website says the tour is 6 hours.

On our Costa Maya port day, only Chacchoben is offered.

We are in port for such a short time.

We went with Native Choice to Chacchoben Ruins. I highly recommend them - excellent tour. They go to Kohunlich Ruins as well - https://www.thenativechoice.com/tours/kohunlich-ruins-tour.

Hi. We're looking to sign up with Native Choice to Chaccoben so I wanted to ask you if there were kids in your tour group and if so, did you happen to observe how they fared on the trip out there and back and during the tour at the ruins? My DS is 7 and while my DH really wants to go, I'm not sure my DS will care for it. Any info you can provide is most appreciated.

oh bummer :( But the other ruins that are available through disney says 4 1/2 hours and it departs at 12:30. Isnt that cutting it close?

If it's a tour through Disney, they will wait for you to get back to the ship, unless it's a rare delay. I think if that is something you really want to do, it's your best bet.

My daughter was 4 1/2 when we went. There were 2 other families in our vehicle - each had 1 child. All were under 9-10. Everyone had a good time. The area is very open and along with seeing monkeys in the trees in the jungle, the kids had a lot of room to run/roam and places to climb as well. You can do as much or as little as you want. There may be some way to get your DS interested in ruins before your trip and I'm sure Native Choice has had a lot of experience keeping kids interested. One of the best things about going with Native Choice was having the ruins to ourselves for an hour before the cruise buses arrived!

Thanks again. We decided that we'll go for it.
