DVC and AP make a huge difference. You're still spending a lot initially (and yearly fees) but the more you go the more the total cost of trips come down. For me I try to plan as far in advance as possible to lower the cost even more by using airline miles for the airfare. Buy the reward tickets early enough and you can get a really low miles ticket. Also throw in the 10% or more savings on accumulated gift cards to pay for food and what not and that lowers the cost even more. With DVC and APs, the cost makes WDW more affordable. It's the flights and added trips that add up for us.
Of course all that being said it still costs a crap ton of money but it sure allows more Disney trips for it. Everything is just too darn expensive these days. Just have to figure out what's worth it to you and spend accordingly. Money is great to a point but you don't wanna be looking at a bank account in the end wishing you had done more with those numbers on a screen. Now go plan that trip! lol
