This is a sad post, because we just bought into DVC and I was so excited about going home to BWV this Oct., but hubby says we need to wait until next year and to rent the points we have now. (He at least is going to let me keep the HHI ressie I made for May). But this is my situation. I banked our 2004 points before I messed around and couldn't. Then, we will have the 2005/2005 points come Oct. 1. What is the best way for me to rent these out? In total, there are 291 points to rent. (We did use 9 pts for our trip to HHI to go with some other points we had that we need to use by Sept. 30).
But, can I go ahead and rent all 291 points? I'm a little confused by all of this. Would I be actually borrowing the 150 from 2005/2006? And , then would I just borrow my 2006/2007 points to book our trip for Oct. of 2006? Please help. I hope I have not confused all of you guys to pieces!

This thread got moved so I'm giving it a bump b/k I really need some advice.
I guess I should have put need to rent out points instead of rent.
Anyway....hope some of you guys can help me.

reesecup, if I'm understanding correctly, you are a DVC member and you're asking for advice on how to go about renting your points? It seems like this thread was originally posted on the Rent/Trade board, but in actuality it was not an ad, and there are potential renters contacting you as if it were an ad, but that's not what you intended?

Anyway, your explanation was a little confusing, so let me try to recap. You have 291 points coming 10/1/05. 150 points are regular 2005 UY points. 141 are banked 2004 points.

For the 141 banked 2004 points, your only option is to rent those out by making a reservation for a renter, and the renter will pay you.

For the 150 regular 2005 points, do you really want to rent them? It looks like you want to go on a trip in 10/2006. That would be in your 2006 UY. What you can do is BANK all 150 points from your 2005 UY forward to your 2006 UY. Then when you book your 10/2006 trip, you tell Member Services that you want to use those banked points to make the reservation.

If for some reason, you still did want to rent the 150 2005 UY points, those can be transferred to another DVC member (less hassle for you) or you can choose to rent them the same way you rent your banked 2004 points.

HTH!

EDIT: Adding explanation of Banking/Borrowing.

This is what your account looks like now:

Regular        Banked        Borrowed       Valid Trip Dates
2004 Use Year         0             0               0       10/1/2004 - 9/30/2005
2005 Use Year       150           141               0       10/1/2005 - 9/30/2006
2006 Use Year       150             0               0       10/1/2006 - 9/30/2007

You should not need to do any borrowing of any kind. But let me give you an imaginary scenario where you would want to borrow points.
Let's say you decide to go to WDW this July. That would mean your 2004 UY. You can see there are zero points left in your 2004 UY. In order to book any reservation for July, you would have to borrow points.

So, let's use an OKW Studio, 5 nights, check-in 7/3/2005 and check-out 7/8/2005. This costs 55 points. When you book this reservation, Member Services will BORROW the points before making the reservation. The table below will show you a snapshot of what your account would look like right at the moment that MS has already done the borrowing, but hasn't used up the borrowed points to book the room yet.

Regular        Banked        Borrowed       Valid Trip Dates
2004 Use Year         0             0              55       10/1/2004 - 9/30/2005
2005 Use Year        95           141               0       10/1/2005 - 9/30/2006
2006 Use Year       150             0               0       10/1/2006 - 9/30/2007

You mention that you won't be traveling to WDW again until Oct 2006. What I suggested above was that, instead of renting out your 150 regular 2005 UY points, you bank them forward. This table shows what it would look like if you banked them as I said.

Regular        Banked        Borrowed       Valid Trip Dates
2004 Use Year         0             0               0       10/1/2004 - 9/30/2005
2005 Use Year         0           141               0       10/1/2005 - 9/30/2006
2006 Use Year       150           150               0       10/1/2006 - 9/30/2007

You see you will then have 300 points in your 2006 UY to use on your trip. If you have any leftover regular points from 2006, then you can bank those forward to 2007.
