I need to purchase an otterbox for the Ipod touch 4th gen dd is getting for Christmas. I went online to amazon and was looking at the defender or commuter. Can someone tell me which is their favorite and any big differences between the two? Thanks

I have the commuter and I love it, except that it caused my top button, the one that turns the screen off, to stop working and the phone had to be replaced. I was under warranty, but they told me its the otterbox that makes you press the button too hard and it breaks the spring.

This would be for an Ipod touch, not a phone. Will I have that same problem? I dont have an Iphone to compare them.

I had a commuter for about a year until it broke. DH had a defender. The defender has a screen cover, which you may or may not like.

Did you confirm that the cases fit an iPod touch? If they do, I think the commuter is more "fun" and provided good protection. I got DH a more sturdy case because he has a dirty job. I now have a Speck case that also holds my ID and a credit card, but not all headphone jacks can fit through the case so that is another consideration.

I got the commuter for DD's ipod touch and it's been great. It comes with a screen protector for you to put on before you put the case on. I also used the piece of plastic that you tear the screen protector off of as a cover for the apple symbol on the back of the touch, before I put the case on. That symbol is the only place that isn't covered, so that little piece of plastic shields it from getting scratched. I have only taken it out of the case once since she got in July. I got the pink/white version for around $25 on Amazon.

I'm not sure if there would be a difference between the I touch and iPhone. The button is in the same place. Check the reviews or maybe google. I looked it up after the fact, and lots of people had the same issue

We got DD the Otterbox Reflex Series for her Ipod Touch 4. I don't remember exactly WHY we chose that one, but we've been happy with it. It may have had something to do with being able to dock it on her docking station in her room. I think some Otterboxes you can, others you have to take off. This one docks just fine with the full case on, BUT, had it not, the bottom half of the cover slides off vs. the whole case having to come off. In any event, we've been happy with it.

I have the defender for the iPhone & highly recommend it! I am constantly dropping my phone-once it flew off the top of the treadmill while I was running, landed on the belt, fell off & slid across the floor & it was perfect. My little kids are always playing games on r phones & it holds up very well.

My kids have the defender for their ipods & my dh has it for his iphone..me I got nothing since I have neither.

My kids have dropped their touches & they still work as does my dh's phone the few times it's been dropped.

I agree with this ! Defender is the best.

I love my Defender! Tried the Commuter but my phone didn't seem as protected as the Defender. Whatever you choose, Otterbox has an awesome customer service in case anything happens.

I have the Defender for my iphone 5. I was a bit wary of its size at first but it's relatively light for its size and works really well. The material is rugged and the quality has not degraded.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I also went on youtube and watched a video of each. I went ahead and ordered the Defender. It looked like a bit more protection. It says it fits the Ipod Touch 4gen which is what I got her. Thanks again:thumbsup2

I have an Otterbox for my phone but will be getting a lifeproof case for my DS's Ipod touch that he will be getting for xmas.

"Ensure your 4th-generation Apple iPod touch stays protected with this LifeProof case that features a water-resistant design that allows you to take photos up to 6.6' underwater and a shock-resistant design that defends against drops up to 6.6' high."

The Defender due to the screen protector for a child =) Last year DD10 & DD8 got their iPods I ended up buying the Griffin Survivor case very similar it was cheaper and easier to find in stores and their iPods look brand new the rubber part of the cases look horrible but the iPod and screen are safe =) We are buying new cases this year and will probably get the Defenders this time around for the bigger selection of colors =)

That is a nice case, but the price is more than getting a warranty

OP, I got my dd the Defender case, and made her use it when she first got her ipod. She didn't like how bulky it made it, but it did offer great protection. I got my dses touches for Christmas this year and I'll get them the Defender too.
