Need to purchase a hot tub

I see you are in Indiana, is your hot tub indoors? Our electricity bill went up about $100 a month in the summer and skyrocketed to close to $300 in the winter before I pulled the plug!!

It is outside on a wood deck. Elevated about 18 inches. Our bill was 12-15 dollars more a month. I watched it closely and it never skyrocketed. Maybe because it was a 5 person and we had the thicker cover? Our bill averaged 150.00 in the winter and 80.00 in the summer. We ran our hot tub year round.

I am talking past tense because we moved in April and have to run electricity for it in the new place.

Thanks for the response. I don't know what to think about that. This summer we have just been throwing the breaker switch back and forth when we use it and are using it more as a warm tub. I am going to drain it for the winter because it was insane. We have ridiculously high electrical rates here but I still don't understand--maybe the hot tub itself? I just can't get over 12-15 dollars....
