Need to hear from chickens who did Splash Mountain

I avoided Splash for years, and when I finally rode it, I felt kind of silly for being so scared of it. It's not a drop, it's a slide. Meaning, it's not that falling straight down sensation like the ground fell out from under you. It's a ramp that your log slides down, and not a terribly steep one (45 degrees). Top to bottom, only a couple of seconds. It's the theming psyching you out, that makes it scary. The anticipation that builds up on the ride, and the way it looks from the outside.

Although I've rode every ride at WDW, I have a fear of heights and can't stand the feeling of falling. That said, I only went on ToT once, in 2002, to say I had done it. I will never get on it again. Never.

As far as drops go, Splash doesn't really have one. Although it appears to, from the outside, it's really just a slide, as was pointed out in the post above mine. I was terrified prior to going on it. After the first time, it became one of my favorite rides.

You are doing yourself a real injustice by not at least trying it once. The ride is long and slow and a very well done, entertaining ride. It's most enjoyable, and worth a short trip down a wet sliding board at the end.

Lol, I'm not sure renaming it a slide is going to help but I'll give that a shot! If the slide in POTC, 7DMT and Kali make my belly flip I'm pretty sure this slide will still be worse. For that matter even real slides I hate with a passion, but I do go on the big ones if my kids demand. No joke though we were at Dutch Wonderland where they have those tall slides that you ride down on a burlap bag and I got all dizzy and thought I was going to pass out at the top. Went once, hated it, no plans to go again. But I survived so that's what I hope to at least manage with Splash.

Your posts are definitely helping. I'm also glad to hear you don't generally get soaked on this one. Going in Spring/Summer I'd be fine with that, but we'll be there in December and I know it can be cool.

I have a bit of a fear of big drops and heights. The drop on splash isn't bad to me. It probably won't make sense to some people, but I tend to enjoy going on at night more because its dark and the fact you are up high isn't as apparent to me in the dark. It is a fun ride though and the drop just last a few seconds.

I read a decent study that said that 85% of people who go on rides that they are unsure about regret it. There are a few problems with Splash Mountain if you are having trouble with it. First - it is a long ride. If you aren't feeling it, you have to be ready to be uncomfortable for quite a while. Second - it frequently stops - which adds to the first problem. Third - for me - it is quite claustrophobic in places. That being said - it's cute and cheery and the drop isn't that big. Remember that you can bail up to the last minute - they let you cross the bridge over the load area to leave or let you pass through the boat and skip the ride.

Me! After several trips to WDW, I finally rode Splash in May. The hill just look so steep to me, and I don't like big drops. BUT, my entire family was going to ride and my younger kids were also riding it for the first time, so I went in solidarity with them. I was incredibly nervous the entire ride and nearly had a panic attack going up the hill to get to the top of the big hill...but it really wasn't as bad as I expected, and I even rode it once more that trip (my first ride was pretty late in our trip). That said...I once again avoided it on our last trip in Oct :o I don't know why, but as soon as the 4-year old declared he didn't want to ride, I took the opportunity to bow out with him. I also opted out of Space and Everest this trip, even though I rode those last trip, too.

The height of the drop on Pirates is 14 feet, Splash Mountain is 52.5 feet. Splash's drop is far, far faster, higher, and more frightening.
You are correct about the difference in HEIGHT, but that's not what I said. I said the LENGTH only differs by about ten feet. Think about it, the boats themselves are more than 14feet long.

The rest of your characterization is more opinion than fact.

As I said earlier, my goal was to help the OP put the DURATION of the drop into perspective. Simply put, it is steep, but it isn't very LONG.

Counting the seconds is an easy way to put it in perspective.

I tend to word it this way...If - prior to trying something- you make up your mind you are going to hate it, then yeah, you'll probably find an excuse to hate it.

I dunno, WDW has lots of repeat customers. I think most people are a little unsure (to you your word) the first time they go on ALL new rides.

If someone specifically goes on the teacups or a teacups clone, and gets sick - they should probably avoid all teacup clones. It isn't hard to tell that a ride is a teacup clone. If you think it is, it probably is.

Likewise, the Primeval Whirl is a clone of the ride more commonly called the Wild Mouse.

Many attractions are standard rides ma by the same manufacturer. The theme park just adds their own theming- (decorations).

I wouldnt say I am *scared* but I hate drops and they give me anxiety/make me feel uncomfortable. I went on splash mountain a couple of years ago because I wanted to see the theming - which I do really like. I did anticipate the big drop at the end though and the inside smaller drops are even kind of borderline for me. I am not planning to go on it this year. I have *not* been on the seven dwarves ride yet and am debating that this year .... I love Soarin and don;t find it scary at all .... I kind of want to try test track but have not done it ... no interest in TOT or RnR. I did the mountain one at animal kingdom becasue my friend swore there were no drops - and while I liked the theming - I was angry afterwards and miserable on the ride. To sum it up I don;t like the drop on Splash - but it;s not SO bad. I would say go on it once to check out the theming etc. there is more to the ride than just the drop.
