Need to bank points--should I cancel my waitlist?

I have a trip scheduled for early June. We are confirmed for two nights at the Beach Club and the rest of the week at Boardwalk (home resort). Our preference was a week at Beach Club (for the pool) but that wasn't available, so we are on two waitlists--one to add two additional nights (hoping that would be easier to get) and another to add the remainder of our week at Beach Club. There is a two point (adding two nights) or five point difference in the point usage, if I'm calculating this correctly. We need to bank our points by the end of March. Is it worth it to wait it out and I assume we would lose those points or just cancel the waitlists and go ahead and bank all the points. Anyone have any idea how likely we are to come off the waitlist(s)? Are there any other options? I'm really new to all this--only the second trip I have scheduled with DVC. We stayed for a week at Beach Club last summer and loved it!

If it were me, I'd keep the waitlists until it's time to bank. I'd also stalk (check for myself) periodically until then.

If the waitlists don't work by the banking deadline, I'd cancel them and bank the points (assuming I have no other trips planned for the use year that could use them). Then I'd go back and set up the waitlists again, making sure to give permission this time to borrow points if the waitlists work.

Just make sure that you keep track if the waitlists worked so that for the next use year you remember than you must use the banked points before the end of that use year. Also if you end up borrowing points and cancel the vacation that uses them, those borrowed points will expire at the end of the use year and cannot be banked.

Thank you! That makes sense and it super helpful.

Stalk, stalk, stalk. :) We're going in April (booked 75 days out). We've been piecemealing a Beach Club trip and in about 3 weeks have gotten 5 out of 6 nights. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip! I'm not sure that I know how to do this though given that we already have all our days booked for the trip (just at two different resorts). I think I would need to modify our current reservation for Beach Club and then add an additional day/days if available but we already have the Boardwalk booked for the days I couldn't get Beach Club. I'm not sure how to do that (shift points from our Boardwalk reservation to Beach Club) without using additional points unless I call and wait on the phone forever and I'm guessing by then the room would likely be gone. Are there "tutorials" somewhere? Also, the website is down much of the time when I try to log on which is incredible frustrating!

You can look for reservations, and if you see one, go back to your dashboard and choose the modify button on your boardwalk stay. If you modify a current reservation, it will hold the current one until you replace it with the new one. Good luck!
