Please share with me the good, the bad and the ugly about renting a car from L & M. I found the cheapest rate through them- 9 days with a minivan at $397. Other places were twice this WITH discounts. But before I reserve, I am wanting to know what kind of experiences you all have had and if you recommed using them.

Thank you! princess:

L&M (and EZ and Payless) are in the group of agencies that reserve the right not to rent to you (even if you have a reservation) if you decline their collision coverage and don't have (and show proof of) collision coverage on a car you own back at home.

Not sure whether this has happened recently or was due to the insurance issue but several years ago during busy periods (like Daytona Week) a few people reported that L&M simply refused to honor their reservation.

I have not used L&M but I have used Payless (which has gotten a lot of bad reviews) with no problems.

Several years ago I attempted to rent from L&M. They refused to accept my credit card as insurance and then they told me a Corrolla was FULL size. When I pressed, the guy said "well, it's a full size this week (It was President's Day Week) I walked to Hertz!

So don't forget your insurance card....

Well I've rented from them numerous times in the past without problems. I always bring a copy of the front page of my insurance and have never been pressured to buy anything extra. Always received great service with easy returns. I would not hesitate to rent from them again. And I've never had a long line to wait in.

We rented from L&M in orlando twice last year I showed them my insurance coverage and I had no problem the cars were in my better shape than the ones we rented from Alamo and much cheaper than the one we rented from Dollar. I would rent from them again if the price was right, I would just make sure I have my insurance coverage with me, I also charged it on my american express which also gives me rental coverage. If they offer you coverage just say no thank you and show them the coverage you have.

We've rented from them twice. We never had a problem. Like OP said, I just brought a copy of my insurance coverage. The did look at it.

The only reason we don't rent from them anymore is because of the great BJ's/Costco codes available from Alamo. Have you tried alamo with codes?? There's usually a wait at their counter, but it's well worth the $100 difference I've found!!

My issue is that I don't want to give them my insurance coverage. If I have an accident, my Credit Card has excellent coverage and I do not want L&M or any other company filing a claim with my personal insurance. (And the L&M agent said that is what they do, I have NO idea if he knew what he was talking about)

When they looked at the insurance proof I brought with me (and they don't always ask for it), they barely glanced at it. They made no copies nor did they write down anything. So they don't have it on file, they just want to make sure you have it. At least that's what I've noticed.

We've used L&M a couple of times without any issue or pressure to buy any insurance. One time the clerk just glanced at my auto declarations page and the next time she just waved it away.

My issue is that I don't want to give them my insurance coverage.
The credit card coverage is in excess of any auto insurance. The credit card companies will always ask you to present it to your insurance company first.

We rented from them a couple of years ago and were very happpy. Good price-I even think there was a coupon on their website for more savings. No waiting in line, and fast service, clean vehicle. We had our insurance numbers with us but they didn't even write them down.

Sounds like too much trouble, bring your insurance etc.... Other Rental Companies seem a lot easier to deal with. I prefer Thrifty, great rates and never a problem.

Why deal with a company like this.

WE have rented from L&M 2x a year for the past 5 or 6 years and they have been great. You do have to have proof of insurance but they don't keep it. Just bring a copy of your coverage page or as in my case in DE I have to have proof on me at all times anyway so my insurance card is sufficient.

We have always had great cars, most times new or nearly new and only once have they tried to upsell.

I deal with them because many times they have the best price for an onsite airport rental car company. I know it's not difficult to take a shuttle and rent offsite but I'd rather not do it. But of course, if another onsite company can give me a better deal, I go with them.

Well the day I reated they were making copies of it... so who knows??

Considering the lines etc. I still shuttle to Hertz. I get great service and over the years I have decided I am willing to pay a little extra for service. (Which is why I never use Alamo or the "local" companies)

You are supposed to report any accident, no matter how slight, to your own insurance company. So if the rental company photocopied your information and reported the accident, your insurance company would already have the same information unless the rental company did a fax and you chose to use snail mail which is perfectly OK instead of the expensive WDW resort fax services.

Often seen on an employee bulletin board: "Report every injury no matter how slight".

We rented a minivan from them 2 years ago. Had no problems whatsoever. Easy transaction both picking up and dropping off. I would not hesitate on renting from them again.
