My Ds has a class assignment. They had to research where their ancestors came from...low and behold, he was the only one with some Swedish in him. Now we have to send in a recipe and then make the recipe and send it in...I am so clueless....something that the class would enjoy...:confused3

Help me please!!!

My son has the same assignment! When my older son was in 4th grade, I sent Swedish meatballs. This time, we're making Spritz cookies (my grandma's recipe). They're easy to make and very tasty. If you don't have a cookie press, you can just roll them into small balls and flatten them a little when you put them on the cookie sheet. (A quick search of Allrecipes or Epicurious will get you a recipe.)

Are you by chance in Michigan?

I saw a few recipes for those, but someone also recommended swedish brownies..I guess they are really different...not sure what I am going to send.

I agree...I think these would be the easiest. The cookies may go over better though.:goodvibes

Lingonberry is really good. My Grandmother can't cook to save her life, but her swedish cookies are wicked good.

What type of Swedish Cookie does your grandmother make?

I was also thinking that it would be an interesting contrast if I were to make Swedish Brownies....showcases the difference between the same thing in different cultures.

Well, my dad has sent me a request for ABBA Anchovies from IKEA. They are from Sweden. My step-mom is Swedish and they were there last summer and my dad got hooked on them. He also has several requests for them from some friends there that are also Swedish SO, I am bringing a case of Anchovies when we visit this weekend--YUCK.

If you are near an IKEA they have a market place there and they have all kids of premade Swedish food that would be great.

Swedish pancakes (plattar) are terrific! I can send you my DMIL's recipe if you'd like. Her parents were straight off the boat from Sweden and her mother was a wonderful cook.

Another good recipe is Butterhorns, a sweet dough crescent pastry. DMIL gave me the recipe and it took me 17 years to figure out she had listed too little flour. I think she wanted to be the only one who could make them correctly. ETA: Now the recipe is perfected to make the dough in a bread maker. Really not that hard to do.
