This is only week 2 for me and already I feel like I have fallen "off the wagon" - got on the scale this morning and the 2 lbs that I lost last week are back - I cheated too much - but - instead of giving up I am typing here for support and have started a WISH Journal - I don't want to give up this time. Even though I only have 10 - 15 pounds to lose lack of will power is making it difficult - still trying to stay positive.....

I have been in the same place as you for so long. Dig down way deep and know that you HAVE the strength and courage to get to where you want to be. I am not sure what eating plan you are on, but I would suggest that you look at what you are eating and check to see if you feel deprived of anything, if so, try and work in a small treat. Maybe make a goal for say 3 weeks, and then go and treat yourself to a NON food item. One thing is for sure, that you still believe in yourself, because you are here looking for help, that spark is in there, see what will light it up!

Don't let that WI get you down. Even if you cheated, some of it could the BF. You can do it and you came to the right place for encouragement. When I first started the WISH challenge, I fell off for more than a couple of months and then started over. This time I have been more focused and have really used this board for inspiration and strength. We are all in this together, not just for the pounds we need to get rid of, but for emotional encouragement and our lifestyle change. Sending PD your way:D .

Princess - I'm not really on an eating plan - I thought I could do this by just cutting down and trying to eat heathier...will just have to try harder. And...drink more water.

Tammy - thanks for the great words of encouragement.

p.s......how often do you weigh yourself??

I hear that losing the last several pounds can go slowly.

You can do it.

God bless you, best wishes, and encouragement, RaySharpton:)

Thanks Ray...your kind word are most appreciated.

I'm so glad you did'nt give it. It can be done without a "diet" plan so to speak. I am just eating better and i'm here to tell you it can work. How about you go to www.fitday.com and register for a FREE account and look at what your eating? I think you'll be less likely to cheat if you have to enter every cheat into your daily total and soon you'll realize what you need to eat to loose and that will motivate you to stay away from cheats. I eat anything i want but it's in moderation. I don't cook with oil or use fat in my cooking i've found more creative ways to season my food. Using mustard and low soduim sauces to add kick to meats and cooking my veggies by roasting them in the oven or stir frying them with spray or boiling them in swansons flavored broths. You can do this you are so lucky to only have a few pounds to loose don't beat yourself up get on the wagon and in two months you could be done with your loss but you have to train your mouth to work with your brain. Best of luck.

Paula-

I agree with PRINCESS VIJA about looking at what you are eating. Even if you aren't on a particular plan it would probably really help you to journal everything you put in your mouth. Even if is just a couple of pieces of this or that, over time they add up. You do need to make sure that you are drinking plenty of water.

I WI on Friday and then I do a sneak WI on Monday just to have a reality check from the weekend. That seems to be my hardest time of the week. We tend to eat out more over the weekend and I just like having that Monday WI to remind me to work extra hard during the week.

I know you can do this and I can also agree with the fact that the last pounds are the hardest to take off. When I first began losing, it came off several pounds at a time. Now it has really slowed down, but that is OK because it is happening and I can't be in too big of a hurry.

I've been where you are too! But if you are doing the diet on your own, I would really concentrate on some exercise, even if it is a 15 minute walk a day. Kamy suggested that to me and what a change I feel. I don't think about food all day and therefore am not as tempted to cheat! Be sure to up your fibre intake too! :)

Good luck, you CAN do it!

thanks - I added "fitday" to my favorites and will check it out later today - I will also post what I eat daily in my journal.

Princess and Tammy - you are right it's probably what I eat as I never seem to feel full - I would like to be able to eat anything in moderation.

And - I did start eercising yesterday - bought Walk Away the Puonds - a big step for someone who absolutely hates to exercise - starting slow - doing the 1 mile M-W-F for 3 weeks then will bump up to 2 miles.

Thanks again......

That is a really good start, Paula, and, the moving with the WATP tapes is good, too. I use fitday religiously, and when I slack on the water, I know that that is when I don't lose! Easing into the exercise is an important thing to do. Keep coming here for the inspiration that everyone provides. You CAN do it, it just will take some time to change old habits! Good luck!

1 or 1,000lbs to lose - it's still weight you want gone! I am so glad you posted here and are NOT giving up! I am just going to echo what others have already said Keep track of what you eat, exercise at least4x/week and drink plenty of water - and although I can NEVER do this - weigh yourself only one time - the same time and day each week (I jump on that scale at least once a day) but the only weight I use is at WW on Thursday mornings.

KEEP TRYING AND YOU WILL SUCSEED!:D

Paula, you can do it! I wanted to eat ice cream last night so bad, but I came to WISH instead and the wonderful people talked me out of it. I made it through that and you can do this too!

Forget about those measly 2 pounds, hey, it wasn't 20 pounds. You drink a bunch of water today, eat some fruit and cut down on those portions and it will be back off in no time!

I am not on a specific diet plan either, I have just cut back on my portions, cut out all bad snacks, like chocholate, cookies, ice cream and snack on some fruit instead. It has really helped me and you will do fine too! Anytime you need support and you feel like cheating, just come to WISH instead.

You may consider Journaling your food to see how much food you are allowing yourself. You can actually gain weight by eating too little. Sounds strange, but if your body thinks you are starving it, it slows down your metabolism. By journaling every bite you put in your mouth, say on Fitday.com, you can see how many calories etc you are really getting. This will also allow yourself to see if you really ate too much.
Just remember that we are always here to help. When you feel that urge to eat...........post it. We can offer words of encouragement.

Paula ... I know you can do it! Everyone has given some great advice. I think that once you start journalling what you're eating, and starting the WATP tapes, you will notice definite results. I had bought WATP early June, did them for less than 2 weeks, and then just never bothered with them again. I was going to Curves 4 or 5 times a week, so I guess I figured I didn't need to be doing the tapes  My sisters have decided that daily e-mails to each other to report on our exercise will "guilt" each other into making sure we do our Curves/WATP. I dusted off the one mile tape this morning, and I felt so great after doing the workout. You've got the right attitude, a plan, and all of your WISH friends to support you. Visit us here often :)

Hang in there. You can do this, we're all going to help you.

Remember that you are actually close to your goal weight and it is going to take you longer to lose it because your body just wants to keep it (who knows why...our bodies are just liket that).

Adding WATP is going to help a lot, although I would suggest you do it everyday. Do your weight bearing exercises every other day but your cardio everyday.

I hate exercising but I do the WATP everyday. I've worked up to the 2 miles. I think, though, it will be quite a while before I work my way up to 3 miles ;-)

Are you still eating sensibly? You might want to consider a more structured eating plan, sometimes that can make the difference.

Katholyn

I am trying to eat sensibly - small portions but with no structured diet - I always find that I am hungry about 4:30 and 9:00pm....any suggestions??

Hi, Paula!

I hope I'm not too late to chime in. You can do this! It's hard to go "cold turkey" and give up the old habits we've developed over the years. Be gentle on yourself and try to make small changes over the next few weeks. Instead of focusing so much on having a steady loss every week, just try to relax into this new lifestyle and imagine that a year from now you will be much healthier and happier than you are today! ;) YOU CAN DO IT!

You already passed up the sweets yesterday, and that is wonderful! I know you aren't a fan of fruit, but who knows, that may change in the future. I am not a fan of tuna (canned tuna, yes, tuna from the fish counter, no) but I have had a desire to eat some lately! I think my body is really adjusting to this leaner way of life and it's saying, "tuna would be so tasty and healthy, you just gotta go get some, Karen!" :)

So just know that the small changes you make today will pay off for you in the long run! :) Don't be too hard on yourself, and don't set really high expectations right away or you could end up disappointing yourself. Instead focus on the things you are doing right, like passing up the sweets for that water and salad yesterday. That was an excellent thing to do and you really need to pat yourself on the back for making that choice! :)

Hi Paula. I know exactly what you mean about the 4:30 and 9:00 PM eating thing. I ate every night at 10:00 after DH went to work. I have discovered that it wasn't hunger, but moreso boredom, and my past snacks of choice were white bread and lots of cheese  My WISH friends gave me some other ideas, and they have worked quite nicely. Before supper, if I'm hungry, I will have a few raw veggies and a big glass of water. Holds me over just fine. If I feel the need to snack late at night now, I will have light microwave popcorn (3 cups which the best I can figure is a 1/4 of the bag) is only 1 WW point ... so even if you're not following a structured plan, that's not a bad caloric snack, and the best part is that I try to eat them one at a time so it lasts longer ;)

Keep checking in with us and let us know how you are doing!

Mary Liz
