Need support from my podcast board friends!*****now with special message!!

Congratulations on to him on s OCS training.

Hang in there and we will be here for you.

I love the DIS. It puts my life in perspetive. My DH is in Guatemala for 9 days. He's gone over my birthday and Valentine's Day. We won't talk at all, except for a brief conversation tonight, and I'm sad and feeling sorry for myself. Then I read this, and I need to be happy. A week is not very long at all.

Here's hoping your time goes quickly! Thanks for the sacrifices your family has made.:grouphug:

Uncle Sam sent me to Guatemala back in the mid 90's

I didn't realize we still had folks going there.

Our family will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Just heard about this thread in the podcast...and I understand!! DH was in Iraq and Afghanistan on and off for two years until May...was home for about 30 days, then gone again for a few months. He was never gone for very *long* lengths of time, but it is the first few weeks after they are gone that are the hardest:hug: (Then also after they come back home and you are used to your own routine...and in my case, I was used to a clean house;)!)

Don't be surprised by how much you will have conversations with your pets at times when you are used to talking to your DH....the pets can be the best therapy...although you should be worried if they start talking back!;) DH had to fight for his side of the bed back from our Shepard!

Celebrate his return from training with a Disney trip....like others have said, it is a perfect way to pass the time. Best wishes to you in his absence and to him for his service.

My DH is on a mission trip with our church. Not military related at all. But, he's still gone, and I'm sad :(

To all who are waiting for loved ones to go, and waiting for them to come home. Thank you for your sacrifices.

I heard about this thread on the podcast and wanted to say thank you and your husband for your sacrifices. Now that I'm here posting, saying thank you just doesn't seem to be much.

There is a saying that I picked up when I was living in Brazil: Sacrifice brings blessings. May I suggest that you write down every day at least one thing that you are thankful for-- one blessing that you have. Make it something different every day. And you don't have to limit yourself to one thing per day. When times are tough, you can go back and read about the positives. It's a great way to stay positive during the difficult times.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank you!

What great advice! I think all of our could benefit from doing this.

OH MY GOD!!!! I cannot believe I made the podcast!!! I'm freaking out!
It's actually very heartening to know that all the podcast members actually read these boards and respond. It's also so heartening to know that everyone on this thread who has responded is there to provide encouragement. I actually get a bit choked up when I think of how a group of people, through the internet, can become my friends.
Thank you Pete, John, Kevin, Corey, Julie, and Bob for all that you do. It's more than just a podcast or a thread board...it's friendship and encouragement.
Thank you all so much!:goodvibes

There are millions of us who are proud of him, and you.

:grouphug:
My sons and I asked for blessings for our soldiers (and vets) each night. Thanks to both of you for you sacrifices.

A big THANK YOU to your husband for serving our country! My DS is back in Virginia for "A" school training for the Coast Guard. He is in the reserves and I am so proud of him. Having a son in the service makes me appreciate people like your husband all the more. Hugs and prayers to you as you wait for his return. :grouphug:

The six months are nearing an end!!!

How has it gone???

Please thank him for his service for making our country safe.

If you ever need to talk, you know where to come. :)

Hi everyone!! The six months are up! Shannon has been home and everything is great. He had a hard time adjusting to being back, but he's been back for two weeks now and getting into the swing of things.
I got a lot of support from a lot of people. I work at Police station and a lot of the guys came over to help out with things. (I think my neighbor thinks I had affairs with many, many different guys :rotfl: ). And of course, my DIS friends really helped.
Thanks everybody, and I'll need you again when he goes to Iraq this spring. He'll be gone for a year. Yuck!

Very glad to hear the 6 months went well. It is unfortunate that is seems like a practice run for his time in Iraq. You know where to come to when you need it:)

Too funny about your neighbors....We ran into very similar suspicions about me when DH was gone. We were lucky enough to get pregnant when DH was home from Iraq for a month. In fact, I found out 2 weeks after he left to go back. I had to tell DH over the phone from half way across the world:guilty: But you have NO idea how many people *paused* when I shared the news (and DH was still gone). I actually had to explain to people that DH is the "baby daddy" and do the math for them.....the look of relief that spread over peoples faces was funny!

Well, again, best of luck to you in his absence this spring and thanks to him for his loyal service. It is very tough on both of you and our thoughts and prayers will be with you guys. Just think of the kick butt Disney vacation you guys can take when he gets home, though!
