We have planned a spur of the moment trip, we leave in 10 days. We started talking about it before Christmas and decided to go for it. We have our place to stay (outside the resorts) now I am a just trying to get tickets ordered. I know some of you will think that is crazy-heehee, but hey it is what it is......I know that I will most likely not be able to get any Fastpasses but I will try and see.

I know in order to get FP's then we need to order our tickets online but my question is do you think it is worth the try or just wait and get tickets at the gates and not be able to do FP's? We are only doing MK and DHS........Also, should I just order them off the Disney site or do you have any suggestions to offer?

Any more tips, suggestions on anything with a spur of the moment trip would be great as well, does not have to do with getting tickets.

Thank You, Susan

Most attractions will have FP available at 10 days out.

Cool! So it is probably best for us to order them online.......I just worry about someone getting sick and us not being able to go---so much flu and crap going on where I live-heehee.

Fast passes are a lot easier to obtain than what is represented on this board.

Plenty of good FPs available even the day of, but the sooner you get the tickets the more options you have. Even if you don't go, those tickets will still be good for the next time you go.

Totally agree. I've had FastPasses and then needed to change them just days before the trip and have had no problems.

I think what gets misrepresented are the extremely most popular attractions and the exact times a person wants them for. Like a person wanting/needing/having to have a Soarin' FastPass for 2:30 PM because that's the only spot that will fit in between all their other plans for the day. But Soarin' is available at other times during that same day, just not at 2:30 PM.

So you will have to trade off the risk of someone backing out of the trip and you having an extra ticket with the risk of having a little bit less availability of FP if you wait until the last minute to buy them.

If someone backs out of the trip and you've already bought a ticket, that ticket can be saved and used for another trip.

As PPs have said, there will still be plenty of FPs available the day-of, but the earlier that you book, the more flexibility that you will have. And by now the super-headliners (7DMT, A&E) are already long-gone.

The MLK weekend will be fairly crowded. Touring Plans is predicting crowds in the 6-9 range for the parks from Friday-Monday. A "6" isn't too bad. A "9" is. So while I would agree that all is not lost in terms of getting FP+s for most rides, you may see some limited availability for others. And for Anna and Elsa, you will need a stroke of luck, (i.e., a cancellation) to secure one. By way of example, Touring Plans shows that FP+ availability is wide open for all attractions on 1/17 at the MK except for Festival of Fantasy Parade, Anna and Elsa, and the Mine Train. Those are all gone. The next day, 1/18, the Parade shows that it is available, Anna and Elsa are gone, and the Mine Train has a very, very few slots open. So it is best to buy in advance and start selecting!

There is never a bad reason to get your tickets in advance and try your best to secure what you want. Waiting until you arrive is always the worst strategy. While I might try that when the parks are at a 2-4 level, I would never try that when they are predicted to be 6-9. If you are staying well beyond the MLK weekend, then you will be in luck. Starting with the Tuesday after MLK Day, the parks drop down to the 2-3 level and not only will you get pretty much whatever you want, you probably won't even need them.

Second/Thirding these. Even on a busier weekend like MLK, you should be good, especially if you are flexible with your times. The earlier the better but anything is better than nothing so don't wait til the gate.

Do use MesaBoy's thread for FP+ planning. Get the big ones/must haves when you can, deal with the others as you go. :thumbsup2

Definitely get your tickets now and try to get FPs. I had really great luck with monitoring these boards for high demand attractions like A&E and 7DMT, and just stalking MDE for FPs for others. There are some things you won't get near without FPs or a 2 hour wait, but most stuff you'll be able to do.
