We will be arriving late on 2/14, we are renting a car. Our first night we will be staying at POR, for the rest of the stay we will be staying at YC. We were thinking that if we requested DME for the 15th @ YC we could just get our luggage when we check in that morning. I called and the gentleman on the phone told me we had to ride DME or the luggage would not make it to the hotel. Do they scan all of the luggage to correlate with ME boarding?
TIA

I don't think I even understand exactly what you're trying to do, even if it was allowed or would work.

You arrive on 2/14, but you want to say you're arriving on 2/15 to get your luggage picked up that day and taken to the Yacht Club where you are staying starting that day?

A - ME is not a luggage service for those not riding on ME (see the sticky @ the top of the page here for info on ME and taking luggage).

B - what would happen to your luggage between when your plane arrives on the 14th and the next day?

C - if all did work out, you wouldn't get your luggage when you check into the Yacht Club in the morning - it most likely wouldn't have arrived by that time, since ME doesn't handle luggage after 10 PM.

Your plan does not sound easily workable for a number of reasons, not the least of which is Disney saying your bags should not be traveling on ME without you. I would just get your bags and take them in your rental car.

You'd have to request DME service for both your POR stay on 2/14 and for your YC stay on 2/15. You'd have to use the luggage tags for your 2/15 stay.

That said I wouldn't do it. I have no idea what Disney would do if your bags got scanned on 2/14. Sometimes bags arrive on an earlier flight. Worse case scenario the bags would be returned to the airline and you'd have to find your way back to MCO to get your own bags from the unclaimed luggage office.

Your flight arrives after 10p? The airline will probably store the bags in the unclaimed luggage office and DME will get the bags on 2/15. Only issue might be if someone steals the bags off the carousel.

Thanks for the comments. We will stick to our original plan and get our own luggage. I had an AHA moment last night, hoping to save some time on our arrival night.

If no one in your party and room follows the Magical Express instructions and rides the DME bus to the resort then you are not DME guests and it would not be fair to call this a DME problem.

Prior to 10 PM yellow DME tagged bags coming off the planes in Orlando are summarily removed to the resorts uncorrelated with guest movements.

Just to clarify.....you can only have your luggage taken, upon arrival at MCO, to the resort you are heading directly to, from the airport. Since you are heading to POR for that first night, your luggage would have to go to POR as well.
Now, compounding the issue is that DME doesn't get luggage after 10pm, and starts up again around 7am-ish the next morning. I doubt that if you left your bags at MCO, and they got them in the morning, they would get them to YC that day. It 'could' happen, but it's nothing I would try. Yes, you could book DME for the 15th, and then 'hope' that they grabbed your bags in the morning and got them to YC. BUT...the issue with tagging your checked bags, and allowing DME to take care of them, while you get to your resort in some other fashion, other than riding the DME bus, is that the DME luggage people have no idea how many bags they are looking for.
When you check in, at the DME area, they ask how many bags you checked. They then put that number into the system, so the luggage people know how many bags there are for each party. If one goes missing, they can start looking for it. You don't ride the bus, and give them that info, who knows what happens if a bag is misdirected by the airline...especially since it arrived the night before and just sat there!!!

So...yes, get your bags when you arrive, and drive to POR. Don't even bother unloading the bags from the car. Just drive them over to the YC that next day. You'll be much happier.
