I've been looking for an ultra-compact camera with a higher optical zoom than 4 but also want at least 4-5 mp. Anyone know of such a camera or close? I checked out dcreview.com and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I am not sure that I can answer your question. I have never seen an ultra-compact with more than 3x optical zoom. You might try posting your question on the Photography board. The regulars there would probably be better able to answer your question. Good luck!!

Here's a link to the photography forum http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=97

I'm also looking for a digital camera (5 mp) and a good optical zoom. At least 3x preferably better. Here are a few cameras I'm looking at.

Olympus D435 5.1 mp 4x digital xoom 3x optical
Sony Cyber Shot dsc 5600 or (s600) 6mp 3x optical 2x digital zoom
Kodak Z740 5.0 mp 10x optical zoom
Kodak Easy Share 360 5.0 mp 3x optical

I'm also looking at other models but those are a few that I've seen pretty good rating for overall. I also found a site that I found really helpful. It lists the camera type megapixels zoom etc and you click the link to see pictures and a review of each camera, along with a price comparison of that camera and the cost at various stores. The website is www.stevesdigicams.com

I hope this helps.I'll keep an eye on the thread because I hope I get some good suggetions too.

From your list above, the best zoom is Kodak (but also with most distortion with the worst picture quality). The Olympus is your best bet (picture quality, digital noise etc)again, based on your 4-camera list.

I have the Sony P200 7.2 MP w/3X Carl Zeiss lens. They advertise it as total 6X zoom using the 2X digital. Pictures are perfect, got GREAT night shots of the Castle using small tripod and fireworks setting. Size is great, battery life even better, and the memory sticks are dirt cheap if you keep an eye out for them on Ebay. Camera is on sale this week for 269.00 at Office Max alot cheaper than when I bought mine. Unless someone wants to spend alot of $$ this is my choice.

Our camera is an Olympus c-765 UZ. I absolutely love it. It's a 4 megapixel. It has 10X optical zoom! It has 4X digital zoom, but I don't use that much. I'm still trying to learn all the settings that go with it, but it does pretty well on auto!

I've been looking at the Canon Powershot A610. Definately NOT compact (takes 4 batteries) but I like a camera with a little bulk.
I guess there is some show out west this month, and many people are expecting to have new camera's released sometime on March 1st if this might help you "wait and see".
My second choice was the Canon Elixim EXZ110, and this one is compact and under $200 for a 6mp camera, I don't know if you've looked at this one.

Another vote for Olympus!!! :thumbsup2

I also have an Olympus Ultra Zoom and love it. It's a little bigger than a typical digital but the zoom is great!!

Hello My wife and I still have a 3 mega pixel camera from Minolta/Konica. I like their all in one SLR type. it might be a little bigger than some but it takes great great picture for an all in one. I also like the Canon digital rebel but that is quite expensive but give great pictures like ones from a old style 35mm camera.

I am a pretty avid photographer and have always loved Canon cameras. I recently got a Canon S1IS, which has 10x optical zoom, but only 3 megapixel. Canon also makes another model which has 10x optical zoom, but a more megapixels, you may want to check this one out. I love the versatility of the good zoom, and even with the 3 megapixel my photos always print out crystal clear.

I just purchased a new digital camera..the olympus stylus 800. It is 8 megapixels w/ 3x digital and 5x optical zoom (total 15). I've never purchased an Olympus camera prior to this one and so far I'm impressed. I've always been a 35mm Nikon fan (N80) and I've had a Kodak Easyshare digital.

Thanks so much for your input! Now that I have some suggestions, I'll have to do a little research on some of the camera's above!
