Need suggestions for a birthday dinner

My mom's birthday is tomorrow and I want to go over and make her dinner, but I'm not sure what to make. She loves steak, but I don't eat it and I have no idea what cut to get, how to cook it and what to serve with it. Any ideas for a nice birthday dinner?

If it is steak you want to make for her dinner, I would suggest that you talk to your local butcher. They have a wealth of knowledge and a willingness to share it with you.

Make a salad, green beans (if she likes that), baked or scalloped potatoes.

You can make a really good steak at home.

Get a nice filet mignon from the butcher (or meat market).

Brown the filet on all sides in a skillet (top, bottom, and then around the circle edges). Then, you just salt and pepper the mignon and place it in the oven at about 400 degrees for 13-18 minutes.

Browning the meat will seal in the juices. It will be cooked medium (pink in the middle). If she likes it more done, add 5-10 minutes in the oven.

Then, slice the filet in small sections cross-wise on a plate. It is very tender and really good.
