After we spend a few days at DL, we will be driving to San Diego to spend a couple of days. On the way, we would like to spend one or two nights at a hotel on the beach somewhere between Newport Beach and San Diego. Hoping to keep the price below $150 per night. Can anyone suggest a nice place on or very close to the beach? The ideal location would be about half way between Anaheim and San Diego, but we are flexible.

I don't know of a hotel, but I wanted to recommend an area -
Laguna Beach is beautiful!!!! You would not be disappointed staying there!!

Try Dana Point. There is a Doubletree that should fit your price range and the Marriott Laguna Cliffs can sometimes be in that price range. The Marriott is nicer, beautiful views and right there at the harbor, but the Doubletree is a nice hotel.Good luck!Sus:)

Can I expand the question to include hotels in San Diego - we want to spend a few day there and do the Zoo and Sea World.

Loews Coronado Beach Hotel is an awesome hotel. It's on Coronado Island and has a beautiful view of the bay. Loews Hotels are very kid friendly and very pampering at the same time. If you become a Loews First member you can choose a welcome amenity (cookies & milk, bottle of wine, fruit, etc.) Bathrobes are standard in all of the rooms. It's a wonderful resort and very close to drive to the zoo. It's not too far from Sea World either.

thanks zipDdoodah,

I checked out the Loews website and they are running some great special that put it closer in price to the major chains. I know the Loew here in Nashville is a very nice hotel a little on the upscale side. The one on Coronado Island looks the same. AAA shows it to be near the State Beach on the Island too. Thanks again.

I know you will love it. It is upscale, and they treat you VERY well there. If you can get a good price on it, go for it. You won't be disappointed. It's kind of secluded and off by itself but only a 5-minute drive into town, where there are lots of shops and places to eat. The beach was very clean. We also went to the beach over by where the ferry lands in town, and it was very nice there too. It's a fun and relaxing place to go after spending time at Disneyland.

regarding beach hotels in San Diego...
the Loews is a beautiful hotel, but IIRC, it's not quite on the beach.
i think it's across the street from the beach.

of course the ultimate splurge is the Hotel Del Coronado, which is absolutely stunning! ;) Coronado Beach is the most gorgeous beach i've ever seen in the U.S. (i haven't been to Hawaii yet though... so we'll see)

a good hotel directly on the beach in Pacific Beach is the Pacific Terrace Hotel. they have pretty decent Entertainment Card discount rates i think.

Does anyone have suggestions for hotels in the Laguna Beach area? The Inn at Laguna beach seems to have good reviews on the web and their website make the place look very nice. Anyone been there? Any other suggestions for this area?

Hi,

The Laguna Riveria is a great hotel. It is kind of a funky 1950's style beach hotel right on the sand. They have small rooms with little kitchens. They also have a funky indoor pool! This is a very popular hotel, so I'm not sure about availability. But it is a great location in Laguna Beach on Pacific Coast Hwy and on the beach. There are restaurants around and a grocery store within walking distance.
You might want to look for a website for them!

Have fun....

Ann
