hi, i thought this is probably the best place to look for some advise, we are planning a vacation with my husbands brother and family, so there will be 4 adults and 4 children ages are 3,5,6,10. do you think it would get crazy if we were all in a grandvilla(especially at night time)??
or would you recommend 2 one bedroom units?? i am confussed, i saw some photos of the gv and they look really great, my sil and family never saw the bw or the one bedroom so i know they would love that too.
any thoughts would really be great.
thank you.

This would be a personal thing - if your families get along, you could in theory squeeze into a 2BR as you would meet the occupancy limit of the unit - that would give you 1K, 1Q rollaway, 1 Queen and 1D rollaway - I would not try and fit your group into a 2BR but it is possible in theory

2 1BR would get you a King bed and a rollaway for each family - nice choice especially if you get rooms close to each other

A GV would be a great choice whether at OKW or BWV or SSR - the OKW ones are less points and are 2 floors - can hold up to 12 people and have 3 separate bedrooms - lots of room - if your families get along well then go for a GV

thanks

I'd go with the GV if you can get it. Second choice for a 2 BR but it will be a little crowded unless you go for OKW. I'm assuming the families are 2 plus 2 each. If this is the case, you might also want to consider a 2 BR plus a studio, which will be cheaper than a GV anyway. That way you can separate all and have plenty of sleeping space.

You may also try to get a direct exchange with an OKW member for a GV there.

I suppose the GV versus two one-bedroom units depends on if you all want to spend as much time together as possible or if you'd each prefer a bit of alone time. If you all get along and can share a common LR, DR and kitchen with no problem it can be fine.

I'm not sure what you mean by "will it get crazy" regarding the night. Are you concerned about sleeping arrangements, the kids schedules, meals, space for everyone?

The grand villas at OKW sleep 10 without using the living room. The problem as I see it is the kids, for example, one couple would have the king(master) bedroom downstairs. The other couple would be stuck with being up stairs with the kids. Now on the other hand at OKW, one bedroom upstairs has 2 queens and the other if I remember has 2 regular beds or maybe 2 queens. Now where would the kids sleep? You would have one couple in one of the queens then you have 3 other beds for 4 kids-but they are all upstairs, so who gets to watch over the kids during the night, the couple upstairs?? At any rate I would suggest you do not use the sofa in the living room to sleep in no matter what you choose for a unit to rent. It is just unfair to whoever sleeps there especially kids, you adults need somewhere to sit after the kids go to bed. When I rented a grandvilla for example the most fun we had is on the porch outside at night which is near the living room. Just some thoughts.

Speaking from experience (note some sour grapes in my tone), you might want to keep in mind that family or friends may back out at the last minute leaving you in a grand villa and spending mega points. If you have two units reserved or a 2BR lock-off, you could still cancel part of your reservation and not have to put so many points on the line. Just a suggestion from someone burned by a BIL:mad:

If you can spare the points (considering the possibility brought up by gracelrm), I would go for the GV. There is something nice about family and friends chatting in a common area at the end of a good day.

I am in the process of booking a BC at VB, and at the moment we have only my wife and me confirmed. My in laws will likely come along, but that will only make four total.
We have stayed in a BC twice before with only four people, and it was awesome!

Good luck...

I think it depends on how chummy you all are and if you are comfortable having children sleeping in the living room. We did this with friends in a 2 bedroom at OKW. We had the Master, our friends had the 2nd bedroom, and ALL of the kids slept in the living room. We had a blow up mattress that we put on the floor. So there were kids in the pull-out and kids on the blow-up. We all were early risers, so it didn't matter that there were people sleeping in the LR. In fact, the 2nd bed in the 2nd bedroom was never used the entire trip. For us, the 2 bedroom was the way to go and we had plenty of room.

Keep in mind, however, that the OKW living rooms are slightly bigger than the one at BW. That may make a difference.

Have fun!
