We are heading back in June, and currently have reservations for Skipper Canteen for my family of four. My kids are very picky eaters and there really isn't much for them at this restaurant, but my son is a huge pun humor fan and we all really enjoy the Jungle Cruise.

I guess my question is, how much does the staff buy in and do the pun humor with the customers? Is it just maybe a line or two or do they really go all out like the ride does? I know it's a strange question and each waiter/waitress is probably a little different, but I'm trying to get a vibe on what we can expect. We'll probably be disappointed if it's a line here and there, but if they are anything like the skippers on the cruise, it will be totally worth it (even if my kids don't eat much).

Thanks!

The restaurant decor is themed to the Jungle Cruise. The servers are not skippers. The one that I had did not participate in any of the puns, etc. I wouldn't consider this restaurant a meal and entertainment.

Interesting. In a few of the reviews I read it says that the wait staff does interact with the customers with the same sort of humor that the skippers do on the ride. Hmmm. Might need to cancel those reservations!

At our most recent visit, I would say its nowhere near the level of the ride but there is certainly some jokes here and there. We experienced it from our hostess as well as our server.

BTW - my DD is pretty picky and she liked the food there. We actually walked away from the meal thinking its probably the best TS at MK right now.

We've been three times (once when it first opened and twice last year). The first time we went, the server made one joke when he first came around and that was it. On our second visit, our server said no jokes whatsoever. She was still very nice and chatty, but no jokes! Our third time (this past December), our server made a joke every time he came around. He was so busy though (this was the week before Christmas), that he unknowingly said the same joke three times, but that, in and of itself, was pretty darn funny. So while you may get some puns, it will be nowhere near what you would experience on Jungle Cruise. It's still a great restaurant, but if your kids won't eat anything, it's probably not worth it. If you would like to go to a restaurant that does more "antics" consider WCC, 50's Prime Time or even HDDR for some super corny jokes.

It all depends on the individual server. Some will be into more than others. We only went there for lunch once (when they first started day of lunch ADRs) and our server was hilarious. Played the part awesome. We have a dinner ADR this time around, even though we don't expect the same type of entertainment from the server. While we have nothing to compare the first time to, I get the impression that it's a lot like 50's PTC in that sometimes they are really into the whole aunt/uncle/cousin thing and other times they aren't.

I agree with the above. I have had two dinners here. The first time (2016), there were some jokes and puns, but the second time (2017) was very straightforward. To be honest, I enjoyed the second meal better.

We went in November and if I wasn't on these boards every day, I wouldn't even know that the puns were a possibility. Our server barely communicated with us other than to get our order and there was no laughter (or groans) at any of the tables around us either.

We had lunch in Sept 2017. I would say for me our server was the right level of humor without being annoying or intrusive. She gave us at least one pun every time she came to the table. More importantly, the food was great. We ate here with my meat and potatoes mother and my super picky 7 yr old. I believe my daughter ate the crispy chicken (no sauce) and veggies. I am looking at the lunch menu and I can't remember what everyone else had. I know I had the noodle bowl and the chocolate cake for dessert. I think my mom had the "tastes like chicken". We had a very enjoyable lunch in a really cool restaurant. Lots to look at, very comfortable seating. It was a really nice break on a super hot day.

I think it really depends on your server. Our first time, we had a great server who told all sorts of bad puns between our table and the one next to us, alway lou enough fo rthe other table to hear.
Our second time was still good, but not the degree of bad puns.
It definitely is not a meet and greet. The main room is interesting, but loud. The other 2 rooms are much better. You can walk around to look at the different rooms.

In three visits we have had one very punny, one semi-punny, and one totally not punny- so it really depends on your server. It probably helps if you’re feeling a little punny yourself, so you can get the ball rolling and let them know you’re ready to play along.

I was there for lunch in September and our waitress was punny. I really enjoyed it! I am also fairly picky and the food was pretty good.

While I loved my food and the decor, no puns or fun Skipper interaction at all at either of my 2 meals.

It's not like the ride. You may get a pun, but you may not. But the restaurant itself has a lot of details on the walls. Stuff that was brought back from the expeditions ;-) We do like the menu and the food, so that contributes to it. Not really sure if it's worth eating here if you are not into the menu. Would be better to eat elsewhere and do a few rides in the JC itself. And Monster's Inc. too.

The puns were subdued when we were there, but they did point out some "highlights" of the restaurant and shared some punny book titles. As others have said, it would probably be fun if you get the right server and if you come prepared for a little pun yourself. And if you like falafel, then the falafel balls appetizer is pretty good.

It’s the SKIPPER’s Canteen. The servers absolutely are skippers. And most of them are very entertaining and funny and informative about Skipper stuff.

I highly recommend it. Food is good too.

Try requesting a Skipper. Two great ones are Skipper Emma and Skipper Robert.

When we went in Sept 2016 our server was a one man (errrr woman) comedy show. We loved it.

We have never been but I’m excited they are booking ADRs these days. Gonna grab a lunch there for our upcoming trip!
