Okay, I am purchasing the sizzix and the converter, but where can i find the alphabet letters that work in the original sizzix - pre converter? Are they discontinued?

I'm not sure what you're looking for. There were only a couple large sets of the steel rule (fat) dies for alphas. I couldn't find any at the Sizzix site since they re-did it. However, you can still get some at CreativeXpress. Check under the Die cuts/Sizzix section in Steel Rule-Alphas. This includes several of the alpha bar sets as well as the really large ones.

I never bothered with the steel rule sets for 2 reasons. 1) They were horrendously expensive compared to the Sizzlit alphas because you had to buy upper & lower case separate as well as the numbers etc. 2) They were too "block" shaped for me. But I did end up getting 2 of the alpha bars once prices started coming down. ;)

Mostly I just got the Sizzlit alphas, which require the converter. Those are still available on the Sizzix site as well as other places like CreativeXpress...but I didn't think that's what you were looking for.

HTH!

I noticed that too, the sizzlits have much cuter styles anyways! I will just get the converter and go with the sizzlits! Thanks so much!

Follow piratesmate's advice and look at Creative Xpress' website. There are Alphabars and the Fun Serif alphas for Sizzix at more reasonable prices compared to other outlets. I settled on a Sizzlit alpha simply because it includes the upper and lower case letters, plus numbers and shadows. I'm trying to pick up Originals for the Sizzix I got for Christmas, but I keep finding Sizzlits that suit my fancy instead.

I agree with everyone, the Sizzlit Alphas are so much cuter and they have both lower and uppercase. I have the original Shadowbox and Lollipop, but I hardly ever use them now. I use the Sizzlit Alphas so much more! :)

I did just pick up two Alphas on Creative Express, Yarn and Nouveau for practically nothing. Yarn was $13.50 and Nouveau was $42.00! Creative Express has great prices for Sizzix stuff most of the time! Check them out! :)

You asked about the lingo, it sounds like you know but just in case you don't: the Sizzix dies are about 3/4" thick and usually have black foam; the Sizzlet dies are very thin, with a light grey foam.

The sizzlet dies will fit in the Sizzix machine (with the long metal arm) if you buy a converter. The sizzix dies will NOT fit in the sizzlets machine (small machine with black hand crank).

Oh, and the sizzlet dies also have a cool line of embossing templates. Now if I can just figure out how to get them in the middle of the paper . . .

Tell me about it! :teeth: I sit here with a ruler & measure 15 times before embossing. So far, though, the best way I've found was to emboss on a larger piece of paper first & THEN cut it to size. :rotfl:

I think it would be great if they designed the embossing templates with frames so you would have guidelines to cut with after you emboss it since getting it where you want it is nigh unto impossible.
