Need some opinions on Fall vacation

Here's the deal- I had originally planned on taking my mom to WDW May 2-6, but since DBF and I will just be getting back from the World December 4th, I think I could use a little more turn around time to save up. So, my next plan is in the fall sometime. I had originally thought about the last week in September since it is still value season, but honestly I don't know if I can handle all those love bugs! Mom is not a bug fan, let's just say, either. Ewww :sad2: BUT, then I saw there is free dining then if I book the package while I am on my upcoming vacation. Mom and I aren't big eaters at all, so I don't know if that is enough to put me over though.

Ok, so now I am looking at the Tuesday-Sunday after Columbus Day at POFQ. That, however, is not value season, but I was hoping the love bugs might be mostly gone by the- hopefully ??!? Also, I am hoping I can get an AAA discount, thus cutting the cost some. My plans would also include the Party for the Senses in Epcot (Love this!!), and MNSSHP (never been to this!) Also, does anyone know how crowded Port Orleans is this time of year? How is the bus service? SO, opinions are greatly appreciated on this, sorry this is kind of long-winded! :thumbsup2

Bumping my own thread so I don't fall off the first page on the first day ;)

I think it depends on personal taste. As you said if dining isnt a huge deal then you go without free DP. Also if you really want to see MNSSHP then maybe later in the season would be better. Id say contrast your options...which has more posatives? Would you be savign money doing the free dining? Are the love bugs really going to bother you that much? Good luck with your decision.

We've gone about that time and didn't find the bugs to be all that bad but I live in Florida so I might just overlook then all the time. October is a great time to go I love the food and wine festival and you would be able to go to MNSSHP that week. All of the fall is a less crowded and fairly comfortable time to go to Disney.

Thanks guys! I am lening slightly towards the 2nd week in October I mentioned, but I am still taking thoughts and opinions

Hi there,
We're planning on the 2nd week of October too. I hope it's the best time ever to go! We're also staying at BWV. Is it really nice? Have a wonderful trip!

We went this fall - third week of October. The weather was perfect - crowds very manageable. My DH says we'll never go in the summer again! You will not be sorry.

We were there this Oct 21-28 and there were no love bugs around. The first few days Florida had record highs 92, then it cooled off for record lows, 60 during the day 40's during the night. It was still great you just have to pack expecting anything. We have gone at this time of year about 5 other times and we love it. It seemed like a lot of people were there but most lines were walk ons. If they weren't we just got fast passes and came back later.

Have a great trip :thumbsup2

We went the 2nd week of October this year and the love bugs were GONE! By reading the boards, it seemed they left about Oct. 4 just all of a sudden. We loved going this time of year; the humidity was low except the last two days and temps stayed in the mid-80's, only rained one morning. We are thinking of staying at POR next Oct. when we go back--great minds think alike! ;)

Ok, I am now strongly leaning towards October 9-14. This way we will get to do MNSSHP, and the Party for the Senses! If we can swing it I really really want to take mom to Cirque du Soleil- I love it and I know she will, but we shall see how the budget goes. Thanks for everyone's input, maybe we will see some of you down there that week :thumbsup2

DH and I prefer early November... NO crowds and perfect weather. Last year we took friends with us and went the first week in October. The weather was yucky - overcast, drizzly and humid and I found it to be crowded - for my tastes anyway. I think MANY people were there for the MNSSHP.

My vote would be for you to push it back a couple weeks and go for the first week in November. You can't go wrong!! It's between holidays and events so the crowds are smaller and the weather is awesome!

Anytime you go, though, you're going to have the time of your life!! Enjoy! :thumbsup2
