Need some night scenery advice

I'm going to New York in two weeks!! I'm bringing my handy tripod with me, but there won't be trash cans all over like WDW. Any tips for night scenery?

Also - BIG help needed here...I always take the Staton Island Ferry at night to see the Statue of Liberty and the NY skyline at night...it's gorgeous! So how to do I get these shots? The Ferry will be moving...How do I not get the blur? Any tips???

Bring a flash light


and some body guards

seriously one of those small flashlights to help see the camera dials and settings in the dark.
