There is a DVD on
amazon that is really good.
OK, its good with explanation: Its a copy, low budget copy at best. The voicing sounds like a bad computer generated voice-over. The piano music in the background will annoy you, and the people that sell it aren't the best, but the course is AMAZING from a learning point of view. It really goes into the full course of basically all you need to know. It will completely change how you see photography. (At least it did for me.)
Boring, yes. But i was bored in school too, but I learned. Exciting, NO, but you learn. Thats what its all about. Its a complete college course condensed into one DVD, and you get a photo software that looks interesting as well (Havent had time to mess with it much yet). Its not perfect, but it's a great place to start if your like me and you don't like books. Its also geared towards DSLR owners, but it also has a lot of information (more than i wanted to see being i just bought a DSLR) about point and shoot cameras.
Its called "Introduction To Digital Photography"
It got mixed reviews, but I took a chance and paid the $27. I think it was worth every penny. Its basically separated into 2 parts (even though they kinda blend together) . the first part is about camera history, exposure, speed, the technical stuff, the kinds of cameras, etc. The second part of the disc is louder, and concentrates more on the artistic side of photography. It tells you how to take your photography from "just get it in the center of the picture and get it clear" to how to create a picture that people will stare at and say your trying to capture the essence of the subject as art (if that makes sense.) Read the reviews and try not to focus too much on the negative ones. I will never sell my copy. I could watch it 25 times and I think I would learn something every time. It has a heck of a lot of info crammed onto the DVD.
