:hug:Considering Disney is the one thing that makes me extremely happy, I came to the boards to ask for some happy thoughts...

My little ****zu dog has an accident this past weekend and was chewing at his tail repeatedly until the point of bleeding. We took him to the vet last night and the vet told us he has nerve damage which could be caused from a tail being stepped on or crushed in a door...we don't know how it happened but the doctor shaved his tail and gave us topical cream to put on twice daily. He told us if it doesn't start to heal within a week we might have to amputate part of his tail, which makes me cry even thinking about it. Our dog has had some behavioral issues these last few months which made us think about putting him up for adoption. Since we got him 3 years ago alot has changed, everyone in the house works full time and is rarely home...this isn't fair to us or more importantly the dog....:guilty: We realize though if we put him up for adoption and they cannot rehabilitate his behavioral issues, they will put him down. I am so torn on what to do I feel so badly and have been sick over it for days.....

any happy thoughts or encouraging words would be appreciated.....

So sorry, hope he gets better and things work out with his behavior. We had a dog with behavioral issues, and lots of daily exercise and a really good trainer did the trick (he went to boot camp). He is now the light of our life and we are so glad we made that decision.

Hope things work out for the best for both you and your dog.

sorry i have no real advice, but just wanted to say i am sorry, i know a lot of us consider our furry friends our 'babies' and it is really hard seeing them hurt!

I hope you and your family can work things out with your furbaby...

It's hard to offer any advice - you don't say what type of behavior issues he has or how & when they began

Indoor urination - marking of territory
Aggressiveness
Barking
Separation anxiety

I would speak about any issues you have with your vet. They would be able to direct you to someone who can help

It might be as simple as starting to use a crate or enrolling him in a doggie daycare program or training classes

I wouldn't give up on the little guy though unless you truly can't or don't want to handle the situation

I hope his tail heals soon. Maybe doggie daycare would help his behavior?

Hope you are all feeling better soon!

I'm so sorry. I'd be crushed if anything happened to our "kids" . We have a dog that is very high energy. During the winter when it was hard to get her out...we put her on the treadmill. She loves it and afterwards( when she is tired out) she is much better behaved.

I hope everything works out for you.

Oh and yes....I agree with the other poster..
If you dog likes other dogs, doggie daycare is awesome. Our dog is anti-social, at least to other dogs, she loves people. But we took her to a place called camp bow wow. I believe they are a chain. And she loved it. Even though most of her interaction was with the counselors.
