Had to take my dog Max to the vet today. He was rather sick, and it was bad enough that I felt it was worth going to the vet. Didn't expect to hear what I did though. It appears that Max may have an issue with his heart. I'm really trying my best right now not to break down in drama-queen hysterics. The vet is going to call in the morning with an appointment for a cardiologist so we can find out exactly what's wrong. The look on the vet's face when she listened to his heart during the exam scared the crap out of me. The vet said it could be mitral regurgitation, which is the early stages of heart disease (from what I understand - which is extremely little right now). Apparently, there aren't many canine cardiologists in Florida, so getting an immediate appointment may be difficult. In any event, if you're so inclined, I would appreciate good thoughts for my pup (and my best friend).

Pete, sending you and Max some positive thoughts and prayers.

Hang in there Pete - furbabies just grab hold of your heart with both paws and do not let go.

See you in 2 weeks

My thoughts and prayers are with you & Max. My dogs are my best friends so I understand how upset you are. :grouphug:

I looked up mitral regurgitation for you:

Mitral valve regurgitation — or mitral regurgitation — happens when your heart's mitral valve doesn't close tightly, which allows blood to flow backward in your heart. The mitral valve is located between your heart's two left chambers, and allows blood to flow forward through your heart during a normal heartbeat. Mitral valve regurgitation is also called mitral insufficiency or mitral incompetence.

We're both thinking good thoughts for you and Max  I hope you get an appointment soon.

I know your furbabies mean as much to you as our three do to us.
Sending positive thoughts to you and Max.

Pete, I was drawn to your post. My heart is very sad for your friend, Max. I just knew I had to do something so I started checking some web sites and I hope this information is benefical. The University of Florida, has a Veterinary College that has a Small Animal Hospital, that has Cardiology listed as speciality care. I have heard second of people that has used this facility when they had a "friend" in need. Their website is: www.vetmed.ufl.edu/ I will be praying for you and Max. I hope this info can help. There's nothing like the relationship between a dog and his "best friend." Good thoughts to you and Max. Hang in there Pete.

The not knowing and waiting can be so tough. I hope you get to see the specialist soon and get a plan for treatment. Until then perhaps you can spend some quality time together. I'm sending you good thoughts because I know that it works!

Pete - I had a cat with a heart problem. She did fine for years on medication (until she got cancer) but she was about 13 then. Lots of pixie dust for Max.

Pete, best thoughts and prayer to you and Max, hope everything works out.

Pete prayers for you to stay as calm as possible and for Max to find a good Dr.I totally understand the love you have for Max as I feel the same way about my furbabies. Please keep us updated .:lovestruc

I'm sending major "doggie hugs" to both you and Max.
I hope you can get in to see the cardiologist quickly.
The waiting is always so difficult... Too much time equates to too much thinking bad thoughts.
Be strong
