Hey all, when I was a kid I was in the Boy Scouts, and one time we went on a trip to Fort Wilderness, and during the trip we went on a campfire excursion. They took us back through the trail on the NE side of Fort Wilderness, over a bridge I believe, and then we stopped at this cleared area. There was a little shack type building, a big firepit, and it was right near the canal entrance into Bay Lake.

We sang songs, had a big campfire, played games, etc... The problem is, I have never even seen this mentioned anywhere else, I can't remember all the details of it, but I was wondering if anyone else ever did this?? I'm not sure how it was all setup, I'm assuming Disney was involved in some way. I have looked numerous times to find more info on how this was all setup, and if it was something they did back in the day but don't do any more. Anyone with any knowledge on this please tell me what you know! :)

P.S. I put a map below showing the general location of where I believe this took place....

Your location is still there, Colson39. Just wander back behind the Settlement Trading Post. The cabin is there, there are a bunch of benches, but at least during the time of year I go, there is no activity. I always figured they did something during the busier times with kids there, but not during off season. So if you want to get misty, just wander back and have a seat on a bench. :sad1:

I don't know of your little place, sorry :sad2: . But your story reminded me of a story :goodvibes :goodvibes . When I was in Girl Scouts, we took all of our cookie money and had a trip to the fort/parks. When we got there our tents were not set up and it was in the middle of a huge thunder storm so being Disney, they gave us 2 cabins for free! We there for 4 days (I think) and we got to be in the cabins for no extra charge!

I heart Disney!

Ahh ok, I'll have to take a look next time I'm there, I wonder if they even use the area anymore. Thanks for info!

The area you went to is where the old marshmellow marsh was held. I think I got the new right. You boarded a 12 man canoe in front of the bike barn and paddle to that location.

The area was used for a program called Marshmellow Marsh. You met at the dock behind Meadows Trading Post and boarded 10(I think)person cannoes, along with a guide. The boats, usually 3 would row through the canals and then "beach" the cannoes on the shore and walk up to the cabin area. The CM's would light the fires and bring out smores fixins as well as direct a sing along. Marshmellow Marsh also got it's own viewing of the water parade and had the music for the fireworks piped in. When it was all over you rowed the cannoes back to Meadows, it was very different being on the water in the dark, as a kid I always looked for aligators at night:eek: .

Wow, I knew I could count on you guys! I had totally forgotten all about the canoes, but now I vaguely remember. I remember they were pretty large campfires, and we ate tons of smores.

We also sang this song where everyone would have a banana, and you would have to eat the banana as you sang the song, but you couldn't swallow. It would go like "Banana, banana" <bite banana>, "Banana, banana" <bite banana>. By the end you had a bunch of people with mouths full of banana trying to say "Banana", good times :)

Thanks for helping me to clarify this memory, I've always wondered what I had forgotten about it (jeesh, this must have been 16-17 years ago now :( ).

Need to check this area out when we go. Would be great if they did it again.
