I've never bid or bought anything off Ebay but I am considering one particular item.

How does the bidding work?

Thanks!

I am a powerseller on eBay and I buy also.

You enter the highest maximum bid you are willing to pay for the item and ebay bids for you in small increments. You will be thw highest bidder until someone else bids a higher maximum bid than you have. If that hasppens, you will be notified that youhave been outbid.

Don't worry, it doesn't automatically jump to your maximum unless someone else bids you up that far.

That make any sense?

It does but do you only get one shot at it?

Powerseller??? WTH is that?

Thanks Wendy.

An very basic example:

A lamp has a starting (or current) price of 10.99, you are willing to pay up to 100.00 for it. You bid like 100.51 (just so a like-minded person doesn't outbid you by mere pennies). unless someone else has placed a higher bid, you will be the winner at 10.99 until someone raises the bid, eBay will keep you in until you reach your max.

It's super easy, you just have to hit "place bid", then it will prompt you to register if you are not a member yet.

If you get outbid, ebay will send you an email so you can go back and increase your "higgest bid" if you really want the item. just really watch your item in the last hour, b/c people will bid with like 30 seconds left and swipe your item away from you. that happend to me once it really stunk! But no I know so it hasn't happend since.

You may also be able to "buy it now" for a preset price by the seller. If you REALLY want something and "buy it now" is an option, I suggest using it, b/c it's a guarantee that you will get it!

Most sellers accept paypal, and it is a super easy way to pay for stuff! So I suggest signing up for that also. All it does is keep you credit card info and shipping info on file so check out is much quicker and for some sellers they don't want to take the risk of a check in the mail so they only accept paypal. Plus it speeds up your shipping b/c the seller receive your money quickly so they send out your item quickly.

good luck and have fun!

Powerseller means I sell at least $1000 worth of products a month (or is it quarter), i don't remember.

No, ebay continues bidding for you. And you can raise your max bid at any time.

DBF explained it all really well. Be careful to factor in shipping (when you bid). Some sellers will charge ridiculous shipping and handling fees to gouge their buyers. (to make up for the fees they have to pay to sell)\

If the seller does not list a flat rate for shipping in the auction, email them ahead of time (with your zip code) to find out exactly how much they will charge you if you win.
