DH and I just got back from our first visit to Vero Beach. It was fabulous. We had a king room at the Inn, it was HUGE!!! Anyway I made ressies to take my DD back the week after Christmas, (can't believe I got them) Now I'm questioning how warm it will be that time of year. All we really want to do is get some sun. I know the ocean will be cold, but I was wondering if it would be warm enough to lay by the water. I know sometimes the wind can get cold. I'd appreciate your thoughts and experiences from anyone whose been there at that time of year.
Thanks in advance!!

I was in Florida at Disney last Christmas vacation, and after the first two days it got COLD! Of course, it was 60 degrees, but the wind howled, and it was rainy. In Michigan it was snowing, so I suppose things could have been a lot worse;) Two years ago we wore mittens because it was 35 degrees! Man, I never thought I would wear mittens in Florida!!! In December the weather is very changeable, so prepare yourself for all kinds, and you won't be disappointed

We have been at WDW several times for New Year's and it certainly can get cold there---Wool Coats and Gloves. I know you are talking about Vero, but I can only tell you about our Orlando weather experience at that time of year.

It's usually a little warmer in Vero but it'll be hit or miss whether it's warm enough for sunbathing.

We have gone to WDW several times in January. The last time, Jan. of 2001, it did not reach 60 at least half of days and there was a stiff wind. Since the highs at home were only about 23 and there was 14 inches of snow on the ground it was warm for us. Vero may be warmer. We are leaving for Vero tomorrow so I know it will be warm now.

We were at WDW from Dec 26-Jan 2 this last year and froze our little heinies off. The kids did manage to dip in the pool twice but otherwise was cold and windy. We even had to buy some of those cute little mickey gloves. Thank goodness we drove down from Michigan so we had our cold weather gear with us. Had we flown we wouldn't have packed the warm gear.

We were in Orlando the week before Christmas 2 years ago and it was COLD and windy!! We wore our winter coats to the parks....

While watching the Weather Channel one day during that trip, I noticed it was warmer at home (Boston) than it was in Orlando!! Not by much, but still.........

We were in Vero this past January 6-12 and it was cold for the first few days and then warmed up--but never to "hot". Still, it was the BEST vacation! We were supposed to check out and go to BWV for a few days but we were so relaxed that we cancelled the BWV portion and added on the days at VB! Even though it was only warm enough to swim (in the pool!) for a day or 2, there were so many other things to do (crafts, educational activitiies, bingo, etc.) as well as just relaxing. We ended up coming home and adding on at VB!

I'm sure you'll have a great time! And by the way, the resort is beautifully decorated with a gorgeous tree in the Inn lobby.

hoosiergirl,

Us "buckeyes" must think alike about VB, we added on there also after going there for the first time in July.

We were at VB during the first week of January in 2001 (4 nights) and again in 2002 (3 nights after 4 nights at BWV). In 2001, CMs were telling us that it was unseasonably cold, the coldest they remembered. When we returned in 2002, we heard the same thing, so we are hoping that 2003 will be warmer than the last two years (we will again be at BWV for 4 nights followed by 3 nights at VB, arriving at WDW on 1/2). The law of averages should be in our favor, but I think daytime highs only average low to mid 70 deg in January (as I recollect from the chart in the Member Guidebook). Anything above 60-65 is fine by me, since the usual early-January weather in Chicagoland is more likely to be cold and snowy.

Last January, it was so cold at BWV that I couldn't ride Kali River Rapids at the AK. I rode it 4 times in March to make up for missing out in January.

It did get warm enough by noontime at VB each year to sit by the pool and read while working on an adult beverage, which is really all I wanted to do anyway.

ncligs,

Great minds think alike! ;) ....except you figured it out sooner--that was our 4th trip to VB! We've made up for it, though. We've been twice since then--3 times in 2002!!!

The weather that time of year is kind of iffy and varies a lot. I have been to Florida in December or January five of the last 8 years and the weather has varied from sunny and consistently in the 80's to high temperatures in the 40's for an entire week. Odds are that you will get SOME acceptable beach weather, but I certainly would not bank on it or depend on it.
