Need some advice (& maybe some commiseration)

We are supposed to leave for WDW after school tomorrow-a 20+ hour drive. Of course 2 week-ends ago one DS started vomiting. This past Fri my daughter started. Sun night my other DS. Tues night my turn.

Norovirus has been circulating around the schools - both theirs & mine. Now DS #2 is being picked up by DH as he's started vomiting again.

This is so disheartening. We ended up with a virus during our DCL cruise over Christmas too.

I don't even know what to do at this point. What are we looking at from a financial standpoint if we call to cancel today? Last May we also had Norovirus. 6 weeks of pure hell as all 5 of us passed it back & forth. Ugh.

If I may speak for the great state of Florida PLEASE stay home ! I'm sorry I couldn't help myself. I'm sorry your family has been sick but personally I would get on the phone with WDW ASAP to get your answers. Explain exactly what you have here and see what they say.

I think you know what you have to do, don't put it off...the fact is it has to run its course and highly doubt that 20 + hour drive & this vacation is going to happen tomorrow.

FWIW as a mom too I think I would pretend my own little relapse so your son doesn't feel like he ruined everyone's good time. Hope you all get better soon, remember WDW isn't going anywhere.

Just a thought but why don't you get the family in to see your Dr. quickly if possible and get some solid advice. Only she/he is going to be able to advise you properly.

Good luck with everything!

I don't really have any advice to offer you except that it is a bummer and I hope you are feeling better soon! Hopefully it won't be 6 weeks this time!

I'm so sorry! What a pain. I don't have advice but FWIW I've always found WDW to be very accommodating on moving resort reservations if you explain extenuating circumstances (I'd guess info about the doc visit in this case??).

I'm near Boston, and during one of the 3 blizzards I called and asked if I could move a room only booked via Orbitz (WDW requires you to go through Orbitz to make any changes). They said I'd need to call Orbitz, who'd put me on hold and call WDW, and they couldn't promise anything, but she highly encouraged me to call if I thought we couldn't travel due to the blizzard coming).

I.e., I definitely would call to explore moving dates before just going for the sake of feeling like you have to due to cancellation fees.

If you have a room-only, your cancellation fee is one night's deposit. If you have a package, your cancellation fee is $200. It is always better to change a reservation than to cancel. With packages, there is only a $50 change fee and it's typically waived if your new dates' costs are equal to or more than your original package. If you can change your dates, I would simply call WDW (or your TA if you used one) and change your dates ASAP!

I definitely hear you - I'm contacting our cc company first. We have trip insurance for trips paid with our cc. I just don't know how they'll re-imburse is or what kind of documentarion we'll need. I definitely do not want to infect anyone else. It's pure misery & highly contagious. :(

I would move dates if we could, but I'm a teacher and get no vacation or personal days outside the school schedule. We already have a summer trip planned (already paid), so that would leave us with next Christmas which would cost much more.

I hope we'll have luck with the trip insurance!

I would simply call WDW. We had a huge issue once. We were "in flight" to Disney once and husband got extremely sick. Once we landed headed straight to hospital from tarmac. Called them from the hospital, told them what happened and they refunded the entire trip and rebooked it for us with a complimentary upgrade to club level.

I for one would not want to take any sickness and go. Not great for you or your family and not great for the people around you! So Sorry this has happened!
