I'd like to give a small gift - nothing big - to a few lady friends of mine this year. I'm drawing a blank on what to give them other than a gift card. I'd like it to be tasteful - enough so that it's a nice gesture without making them feel bad that they don't have anything for me. These people have been so wonderful to me and I want to give them something to show I'm thinking of them at this time of year. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe an ornament for their tree? Something that speaks to your relationship or something you did together this year.

For stuff like this I like to wander through the stores and see what little things they have out. I try to go with nothing in mind and usually have good luck with finding some fun things.

Can you give a little more detail about what they helped you with or what the women like. It's easier to come up with suggestions that way.

Sam's Club has a lot of 4 packs of things like coffee cups filled with candy, holiday napkins in ceramic holders, candle sets, things like that.

Yankee Candle has some beautiful votive holders. I got them for my assistants and put a holiday scented candle in them.

Maybe a Lenox Chrismas ornament...I just ordered a lot of gift boxes from Dale and Thomas popcorn for my husband to give out at work and was just looking for gift ideas at Sephora and they have lots of stuff I would like myself! Ut Oh! I also received a gift once from a DISer from Fat Witch brownies...YUM!

Finders Key Purse (read: finder keepers). It's a key ring with a hook that hangs over the edge of your purse, so you can locate your keys that would ordinarily fall to the bottom of a bag. They are about $10 each (or less)
I wanted to give one to each of the girls in my office, but decided to make homemade gifts instead.

last year my SIL gave me a new pill compact with the "Desperate Housewives" design on it. I LOVE it!

Some friends and I exchange small gifts for birthdays and holidays. We love candles (Yankee candles can get expensive, lots of stores have nice ones more reasonably priced.), a holiday kitchen dishtowel with a kitchen gadget like a whisk or spatula tie up together, notepads, notepaper, Bath and Body type items, nice handsoaps (liquid), home fragrances, costume jewelry, photo albums, picture frames. Scarves, gloves, favorite candies or treats, coffees/teas, a bottle of wine or even a small potted blooming plant. A nice book or journal. I wish I had a ton of extra $, I could buy forever for my friends!

I was at a party this summer and all the ladies had these purse hooks that hooked onto tables to keep their purses off the floor when they were eating out. As strange as these seemed, they all agreed it was a great gift. I have seen them at Target for under $10.

They are just ordinary moms that I've come to know. We've known each other for years, I treasure their friendship and we all try to support each other. They will go to any length to help you with whatever you need at a moment's notice. They are the kind of people that you don't find very often in life. Just wanted a small token gift for them.

I have a favorite photo frame from a friend that has this quote from Maya Angelou on it:
"If you find it in your heart to care for someone else, you will have succeeded"

you could print that out, and maybe decopage it on a large tile to make hotpads, or something like that.
I LOVE the quote..and it seems like it would apply to your dear friends quite well.

My Mom just asked me this same question the other day, but for her coworkers.

I suggested to her, and submit to you:

Napkin Rings
Set of Cloth Napkins
Hors Deuvres Knives
Christmas Platter or Bowl
Christmas Print Towels for the Kitchen or Bath

I told her to go to TJ Maxx or Marshall's to see what they have and go from there.

They have the big candles on sale at Bath and Body 2 for $20. If you can get the 10 off $30 you can get three for $20. They have cute christmas towels at Kohls with initials on them that would be cute, too.

My first thought was to get them each an ornament for the tree.

I have two friends at work that I exchange gifts with. It's usually something small. We've done everything from candles, coffee sets w/mug, frames, etc. This year I wanted to do something different. I wanted to go to Hallmark and get them an ornament that "represented" them. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything that I liked for them. So I decided to get them each a stuffed snowman. They're cute and they can use them as a decoration during the holidays.

I have started to pray that when people think they need to give me a gift, that they decide to make a donation to a charity oin my name.

Candles I don't love, I have a million holiday knick knakcs etc. Not that I don't appreciate the thoughtfulness, because I do. It's just that I'd love to see their money go a worthy cause.

The dishtowel idea isn't bad...it's useful, so that's nice. A coffeeshop gift card is always good too. how about a coffeemug with some biscotti in it and a chocolate covered stirring spoon.
