OK so I am thinking of renting points for a stay in March at BWV. Problem.... 1 of the 6 nights (in the middle) of my stay is not available for DVC reservations only regular reservation. Can I pay for that middle night out of pocket and then book the room with DVC around that date? Do you think I'd be able to keep the same room with that kind of "split reservation"?

***Also, once I rent points, how will I know if my reservation is confirmed if DVC won't talk to me since I am a non-member? :confused3

The lady I am working with seems nice enough, but she is a stranger...I would like to confirm my reservation does actualy exist as I am spending $1000.

Last question, if she adds a dining plan on to our ressie do we just pay for that when we check in? Would our split reservation cause an issue with dining plan? HELP!

Please advise a rookie on this guys.

The answer to this is, it depends. If you book your cash room night through CRO, the member may ask member services to link the three reservations and you may or may not have to change rooms. If the member makes a cash reservation for you through member services (you won't be eligible for the member discount), the three reservations are linked and you probably won't have to move. However, there are some room types which cannot be reserved with cash, for example the boardwalk view and the standard view at BWV and I think the dedicated 2BRs at BCV (may be others).

You won't be able to confirm any reservations made by the member through member services. The member should send you the confirmation he/she receives in the mail for your reservation. I have seen posts on this board which state you can contact the resort directly a few days prior to arrival to make sure they have your reservation, but that will be the only way you can confirm directly with Disney.

That also depends. If you purchased the cash night through CRO, you would technically have three different reservations and you could purchase the DP for either or both of your DVC stays without a ticket package purchase, but to add the DP for your cash night stay, you would be subject to the package purchase requirements. If the member added the cash night, the reservations would be linked and you would be able to purchase the DP for your entire stay.

However, I don't know the rules for a member booking a non-discounted cash stay for a non-member and how that would work for you. I think the cash stay is paid at check-in, but I know they asked for my credit card information to hold the cash reservation. I'm sure some of the members who have rented can answer that part for you.

A DVC points reservation cannot be linked to a CRO cash reservation. You would have to give the CRO number to the member to add to your points reservation. And you would have to give CRO the DVC number to add to your cash reservation. Then, when you check in, make sure that all the reservations blocked into the same room.

Member cash discounts are supposed to be only for members staying in the room.

For a cheap $1000 for a stay at the BCV, you can get a copy of the DVC points reservation from the member making the reservation for you. It takes trust to get the discounted reservation. If that isn't good enough for you, you might want to make those stays for cash through CRO and you will have all the guarantee you need.

Thanks so much for your reply....I am very saddened to say that DVC reservations are unavailable for 3 nights now of the 6 nights I need at BWV. Only SSR is open.

I am not going to take it since the whole point of me trying to rent and move resorts was for location. DS4 is not gunna handle the long waits and bus rides back to POR too well after a LONG park day. I wish I had known about point rental sooner!!!

What really turns my crank however is that there is PLENTY of room at the BWV just not for DVC members. What's up with that?! If I was a DVC member, I'd be furious of only people paying oop could reserve. At $485 per night for a studio, that's too rich for my blood.

If you were a DVC member you wouldn't be furious because you'd know that there are two separate inventories of rooms at DVC properties. There are the rooms available for us to reserve with our points and there are also rooms held by CRO. These consist primarily of rooms that are held out of inventory because DVC members have "traded" out of the system, and DVC "sells" these rooms to CRO to be rented for cash in order to "pay" for the DVC trade.

Hope you can rent points another time!!!

Plenty of DVC members will pay cash to CRO if they don't have the points to stay or there is no vacancy on points. We've done it. When you have already shelled out $50K for points (not including dues), what's another $400 a night?

And like DVCLiz said, we already know why there is CRO vacancy and not DVC. That's why we make our reservations 7-11 months ahead of time if we really want to stay someplace.

Is there a Annual Pass discount through Central Reservation for your dates? If there is, you may want to consider buying just one and getting a room discount that way. You can order it online and pick your pass up at Guest Relations.

Hubby and I are going call Disney today and do some serious number crunching...with the cost of an AP, we need to figure out if the room discount is enough to allow us to upgrade more reasonably I called last night and without the AP it costs over $2000 more to stay at BW Inn, not even the villas. Unless we can cut that difference down by about half, don't think we can swing it. Thanks again for all the help!

Those $485 a night studio rental also help offset our dues so they don't bother me a bit. DVC members know that trying to book anywhere at 60 days out is a crapshoot.

POR is a very nice resort I am sure you will love it.

The only portion that is directed toward dues is the breakage inventory after CRO takes their cut if through that system. The rest either go to DVD to pay for exchange options OR to DVD's pocket depending on the origin of the points used for that unit.

But even if it is 10 cents that is less money I have to spend. This is why DVC really works for PLANNERS. If you like to be spontaneous then understand you will be spontaneously happy and dissapointed depending on availablity.

But to narrow down to just one or two resorts at the last minute....you will not be happy very often.

Exactly-as some of you know I was just given an extra 150 points to use. so, of course, I booked a trip for this March!! when I called MS this afternoon I knew that I would take anything available and I also knew that it might not work out at all. I called and the only thing that had all 7 nights was SS. So, hey-I took it! of course it is funny because I just checked out of SS only five days ago but you take what you can get!! I fugure-anywhere at Disney is better than anywhere else!! And I actually really liked SS so I am very pleased I was able to get it.

There's also a maximum, amount, I think it's 2.5% if I recall correctly. But yes, every little bit helps, esp since many of these units that are rented inside 60 days would otherwise go empty though I'm sure many of them still do.
