We are going to WDW at the end of February- early March 2022, and we are trying to decide where we want to stay. We have already stayed at Bay Lake Tower and Saratoga (home resort). We are planning to spend the first night at Disney Springs, two days at MK, two days at HS, and one split day at Epcot and AK. We can borrow points from next year if need be. We just want something that is convenient for our family (husband, myself, 10 year old son, and 5 year old daughter) and would be a nice stay in a one bedroom villa. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

As to availability at 7-months out, 1BRs are often open when other rooms are not but the time you are planning to go may include part of the last weekend in Feb 2022, and if WDW returns to any normalcy by then, that will be the Princess half-marathon weekend (the highest DVC demand time that exists between mid-Jan and late Sep), and thus there actually could be some issue possibly getting a 1BR at 7-months out at near park resorts. Note, that issue would likely be avoided if your arrival date is Sunday, Feb 27, or after.

As far as the rooms themselves go, the best 1BRs are at AKV Kidani and BLT. That is because they are larger than those at a number of the other resorts, have two bathrooms (to the usual one elsewhere), and besides the king in the master and pull-out queen in the living room, have a chair in the living room that pulls-out to a twin size bed (and thus the two kids would not need to share a bed). If you were to choose Kidani, savanna view would be the choice and make a request for Sunset savanna view and room near the Timon elevator (to be close to bus station) or one near the Rafiki elevator (to be close to pool). If you were to choose BLT, get lake view and make a high floor request. Kidani is an excellent resort with the animals, a good pool area with a very good kids water play area. BLT provides easy access to MK, a living room with near floor to ceiling windows for fantastic views, a large fireworks viewing area at the top, and easy access to Contemporary's character meal restaurant, California Grill (great views and food), and easy boat trip to Fort Wilderness if you want to do Hoop Dee Doo.

I would personally rule out VFG and Riviera. Resorts and rooms are fine but point cost is very high in comparison to elsewhere, but if you really want to spend that many points, either would be fine. VGF 1BRs are large have an extra Murphy bed that pulls out of of a cabinet in the living room, and it now has a walkway to MK. Riviera 1BRs are large, have an additional Murphy bed and the experience of doing the Skyliner.

Otherwise, If you are fine with having only the king and the living room pull-out queen, you could do any of the other four near park resorts with 1BRs: BWV, BCV, BRV or CCV. CCV has the smallest rooms of that group (but not too small). Of those, my highly-preferred choice would be BWV if, as is possible if start date is Feb 27 or after, you can get a boardwalk view 1BR, which provides one of the best WDW views.

We were thinking of checking in on February 26 and staying through March 4 since that is Mardi Gras break week here.

We were definitely looking to book Saratoga at 11 months since that is our home resort, and then trying to switch over to Bay Lake Tower or Boardwalk at 7 months. My husband thinks Bay Lake Tower may be harder for us to get, but we are going to try!

When do they usually release the marathon dates so that we know exactly when the crowds would be there at the hotels?
