Need resort advice - nearest to Hyatt Orlando

Hi,
My daughter will be having a robotics tournament in Orlando later this year and will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Orlando with her team.
Our family wanted to use some of our DVC points rather than staying at a hotel in near her hotel.
We have never been to Florida and would like some input on which resorts we should be looking at. We are coming from Hawaii so have no experience or points of reference in Florida.
After her tournament is done we were going to visit a few parks. I understand that you would spend a week visiting all the Disney parks in the area, but we will only have two days before we need to leave.

1. Can someone recommend a DVC resort nearest to the Hyatt?
2. We've only been to Disneyland so are not too familiar with DW so are not sure which parks should we visit in our limited time. Right now, based on searches we think Hollywood would be one, but are not sure about the others. As we've been to DL a lot I feel maybe Magic Kingdom would be too similar so maybe Animal Kingdom? Our kids are 16 and 10 years old and enjoy exciting rides.
3. Which would be the best resort to stay at when visiting the most popular parks?

-They are all within the WDW bubble, so distance wise it's all on par. Even if you were to stay at one of the monorail resorts, which is the furthest in of the bubble, it might add an extra 5-10 min drive.

-I have been to both DLR and WDW many times, and I can tell you even though MK is similar to Disneyland, but to me the vibe is still very different at MK. The castle alone is a drastic difference. However, if you're limited on time and don't really care to experience the difference, that's understandable too. If your kids enjoy thrill rides, I would say Studios is definitely a great choice. If you only have time for one more park, I would do AK because it's more unique.

-You can't really say the most popular parks, but more like which parks you will be visiting. If you're going to Studios for sure, either BWV or BCV, those two are the closest to Studios and Epcot but also pretty centralized locatoin. If you want more space, OKW has the largest villas and close to Disney Springs (DS), so that will be a good option too. If you want to be walking distance to DS, that will be SSR.

I had to look up where the Hyatt was and it looks like it's on International Dr? If that's the correct one, then I think Old Key West would be the closest at around a 20 min drive. But it's also probably the DVC resort that is the furthest from the Disney Parks.

Having only done DL a few times, and the most recent was probably 5 years ago? I'd probably do AK and Epcot if you want different from what you see at DL. But I would not miss MK myself. A lot will be similar, but even some of the rides that are at both DL and DW, are a little bit different.

I think popular parks are different for some, and best resort is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Our favorite DVC resorts at DW are BLT (so we can walk to MK), BWV or BCV (so we can walk to HS and Epcot - plus we love Stormalong Bay at BC). Poly is great too bc it's a monorail or boat ride to MK, or a short walk and a monorail ride to Epcot.

1) Saratoga Springs or Old Key West, but as noted above neither is remotely close, especially if you’re used to Disneyland. The Hyatt Regency near the Convention Center is like staying in Huntington Beach to go to Disneyland.

2) Epcot or Hollywood Studios would be my votes, in that order.

3) Most popular park (i.e. Magic Kingdom)? Bay Lake Tower. Epcot and Hollywood Studios? Boardwalk, Beach Club, or Riviera, in that order.

Later this year? The fall/holidays are really popular for DVC stays - your choices may be very limited at this point, likely SSR or OKW, maybe AKV.
W/ 2 days I’d combine Disney Hollywood studios & Epcot on one day (DHS first then evening at Epcot - be sure to ride Guardians of the Galaxy & Remy in Epcot) and do AK (daytime) & MK (night) on the other. Choose which to do on which day based on whether MK will be open late & not closing early for one of the parties (Halloween or Christmas.)

OP, I think the "later this year" part of your post is the crucial part. I think you need to check the DVC member website to see what's even available during the dates of your trip. There might not be much left.

If people are going to be travelling from a DVC resort to the convention center to watch your daughter, you should go to google maps at the time of day they would be travelling, to get an idea of timing. I have stayed at hotels near the convention center and gotten a ride to Disney from there; I seem to recall that it took about 30 minutes.

If people will be driving from a DVC resort to the convention center, you need to investigate the cost of parking at the convention center. If people will be ubering, you need to check the cost of that. You can open the Uber or Lyft app, and plug in your desired pick up spot and drop off spot at the time of day you will be travelling to get a general idea.

By the time you think about travel time and expense, using DVC points might not seem like such a great idea.

This gives you an idea of the convention center area. The hotels near the convention center can be expensive if you aren't able to book as part of a convention rate.

I have stayed at hotels near the convention center and gotten a ride to Disney from there; I seem to recall that it took about 30 minutes.

15-20 in good traffic, 30-40 in normal traffic.
