Due to my ongoing foot problems, I have had to give up all exercise that involves me walking/jogging, etc. on my feet.

I've tried to do some sort of strength training at home, but on my own, I just can't get it together.

I'd like to know if you use any stength training DVDs that you think are good that don't involve too much lower body movement (no cardio). I can do squats and stuff but I just can't be dancing around, hopping, kicking, etc.

Thanks!

I use the 10 Minute Solution series. It has 5 different workouts.

The series I'm using right now is sculpt, tone and reshape with a figure 8 band. You are your own resistance with the bands, which come in two different colors for different resistance.

The 5 different works outs let you pick what parts of the body you want to work on and does have a cardio option but it's not included in every workout.

Last year I was doing a stretching pilates with stretch bands where again you were own resistance and I loved it. I just didn't want to purchase weights to keep stored and then dig out in the morning for use. The bands fold away in a drawer or the box the dvd came in.

I also use the 10 minute DVD's. I like the Kickboxing, Get Fit, Dance your body. They are easy to follow and require little in the way of equipment.

I just had foot surgery for my Morton's Neuroma. I had a nerve decompression. It's been almost 3 months and I'm back to normal (whatever that was for me). I'm exercising in a way I haven't been able to in years.. I suggest that you see a podiatrist and have him/her figure out what is wrong with your foot. It's worth it.:cutie:

Oh believe me, my podiatrist is on speed dial!

I have posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. I got it started by doing the 30 Day Shred tape back in January with no footwear. This is an injury that rarely heals on it's own, but I am trying. I've spent the better part of this year in a walking boot trying to rest the tendon. I now have custom orthotics that really help, while in my sneakers. For now, I am in my boot all day, and move to my sneakers at night. I *can* exercise but must avoid all types of activity that cause me to put pressure on the arch/inner ankle of my foot. So, no treadmill, no jogging, no dance, no kickboxing, nothing like that. I have to keep my foot very stable.

...my DS recently got P90X - it's based upon 'muscle confusion' and has all kinds of different kinds of exercises, like yoga, cardio, isometrics, etc....(the infomercial is on all the time)

Pilates! Don't underestimate the intensity of exercise you can do laying on a mat! Pilates combines stretching and strengthening. And the best part is that you strengthen your core most of all which is a very important....probably the MOST important muscle group that we have (esp. as not-young ladies, you know?) From the point where I began pilates, I never had lower back pain ever again. It's improved my posture and all-around comfort. And if you don't think it's tough enough, keep in mind that athletes, including NFL players do Pilates!

Do you use a DVD for it? One you can recommend?

I second that. I would love to hear of a pilates DVD that you can recommend.
I've heard good things about pilates but never tried it.

To be honest, no, I've attended classes. You should search maybe Amazon.com for "mat pilates" and choose a beginner DVD. Any of those would be fine.

One thing with the DVDs is that you should watch it once without actually doing it so you're somewhat familiar with the exercises. This is so that you don't have to bend your neck to watch the screen constantly while doing the workout. It's important to keep all parts of your body....especially your neck....pretty much where they're supposed to be during each exercise. We were always told that if we needed to look at the instructor, to stop what we're doing, look, and then go back to doing it properly.

It's not terribly complicated and you'll know the exercises very quickly. I never got into the whole breathing thing. The important concept with that is that you just remember TO breathe.
