I had to call mom this morning because their oldest furbaby has become very ill. He is 17 and they have had him since he was a puppy. I didn't feel it was up to me to make any major decisions nor could I afford to pay for the costs to keep him comfortable until their return so I had to call:( Mom authorized the $250 to keep him comfortable and for blood tests to see if his organs are failing. It was aweful to listen to her crying on the phone because she just wants to be here when Alex goes across the Rainbow Bridge. On top of that DS was crying all morning because he knows Alex won't be here much longer:( My parents are at WDW for a convention with dad's work. Nothing like being at one of the happiest places on Earth and learning your furbaby is really sick
:( They really could use the Pixie Dust to try to enjoy the rest of their stay.

I've been in your situation a couple times before. It's not easy.

I just said a prayer for your parents and for Alex.

I'll pray for Alex' comfort and that he stays here long enough for your parents' return. I'll also keep your parents in my prayers - hope they can still enjoy themselves and savor the time in WDW.

When are they scheduled to return?

P&PD heading their way, and Alex's way so he can hold on without suffering too much until they get home.

Thank you all. They return Friday morning. He just needs to hang on for a couple days. If he gets really bad then I will have to make "the decision" and I really don't want to do that.:(

Aww Carolyn, so sorry to hear this :( PD to you all  I hope that Alex can remain comfortable for the next couple of days.

How sad! PD and hugs for all of you!! My puppy's name is Alex too and I know I would be devastated!

Carolyn - sorry to hear about all you are going through. I hope the dog will hold on until your DM returns.

Update: Alex is currently home. He is taking 3 antibiotics. He spent most of the day at the vets and was given strong antibiotics and rehydrated him. He know under my nrothers watch until the morning. They also have put him on a special diet. The goal is to keep him comfortable and alive until mom and dad get home Friday. As of right now he is very active and alert. Now my brother is concerned because of how active he is.
After dealing with my son crying most of the day I am exhausted. He is also thinking about the fact we have a furbaby that is terminally ill but still has a good quality of life with her meds. He is afraid that Alex and Trixie will die at the same time and he will miss them.:( (Trixie has been ill for over a year but the only sign is she is sooo skinny. She is still active and able to beat up the young cat whenever the mood strikes her:p )

I really appreciate all the good thoughts, prayers, and pixie dust. I told mom I posted about Alex and she said to tell everyone thankyou and they are doing the best they can to enjoy their last couple days at WDW.

Thankyou!!

Alex crossed the Rainbow Bridge today at 12:45. He lived long enough for my parents to return from their trip and for Nick to finish his state tests. We all said goodbye and then my parents took him to the vet. Nick refused not to go so he went with them. Dad said it was really sad. Nick didn't want to leave Alex even knowing he had gone to sleep. We are still greiving tonight. Thankyou for all the prayers and good thoughts that came our way last week.

So very sorry to hear that about Alex, Carolyn. Sounds like you and your family are very loving, caring. Always sad to lose our wonderful pets.

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
My condolences to your family. I'm sitting here with tears running down my cheeks. I don't know how I would act if one of our furbabies left us. Prayers and Pixie Dust go out to help you through this tough time.
