Need opinions please on HH restaurants...

We ate at the Salty Dog last summer. To be honest I thought it was extremely overrated and cannot understand what they fuss is about.

To us, Salty Dog is more for the experience than for the food. In many trips to HH, we've only actually eaten there 2 or 3 times, but often go to the area to check out all the South Beach shops. :flower:

Thanks everyone for your input....I am writing everything down....

Hey Doug -- We are going down May 22 and have a 2 bedroom.... maybe we will see you.... do you have any children...? I have a 5 year old daughter and my son will be 2 in June....My parents are supposed to be coming and now my mom is telling me she doesn't know... bummer... I already bought airline tickets for everyone...

Another vote for Giuseppi's (they are next door to Brusters Ice cream)!

I'd second the Iron Wolf. Great food.

Also, Old Oyster Cafe is on the marsh but has excellent views, especially at sunset. Scott's Fishmarket is on the water, but you'll see that on your way in to the resort.

A word of warning about Guiseppe's - get there early or you will have a pretty long wait.

Do you suggest any other restaurants especially with a 5 and 2 year old! I'm alittle upset because my parents can't make the trip... I just had to cancel their airline tickets.... so it will just be the 4 of us in a 2 bedroom. I know we will still enjoy it...

Are there any great places for breakfast?... I think we are going to try Signe's... we might wind up having breakfast in the room but it would be nice to have some options...

We've been to HH many times. Guisseppi's is one of our favorites - great pizza, but also great Italian dishes all around. We love the Old Oyster Factory, but Hudson's on the Dock is great, too. OOF has a view of the marsh, and Hudson's has a view of the Intercoastal waterway (at least I think that's what it is).

Hilton Head Brewing Co is also good for wings and burgers, plus they seated us in the back of the restaurant, and we got to watch the ducks outside in the pond. Truffles is in Sea Pines, but we like eating there, too (although, they have a sign posted about removing crying children from the restaurant, so they are not the most "child friendly" restaurant on the island).

Have fun. We may get there in October. We go almost every year.

Which one would you prefer - Old Oyster Factory or Hudson's... or do you think they are equivalent to each other... just curious...

I think we are definitely going to do Guiseppi's and probably Scott's since it's a walk away from the resort... I am writing everything down and hopefully soon I will have some kind of itinerary.... I hope my hubby also wants to do the beach combing tour...!

This is what I have on my list....

Guiseppi's
Crazy Crab
Scott's Fishmarket
The Sea Shack
Old Oyster Factory
Iron Wolf

I am trying to get together places that I would probably be better off at with 2 kids! Any comments/suggestions would be great!

If you like good wings, I'd put Wild Wings at the top of the list. Even if you only like wings somewhat, it's a must. Other than that I can't think of any place that's a must for kids that age from a dining standpoint. On the other end there are many places in HH not appropriate or at least not comfortable for kids ages 2 & 5. There are a number of nice family places as well, many of which have been mentioned here as well. For Breakfast there's a cracker barrel and the Hilton Head diner nearby, goth great choices. We do like the Old Oyster factory and find it's a great place to watch activity for early evening (kayak's, etc).

With younger kids, I think I'd go for Hudson's -- it's a little more casual than Old Oyster Factory (not that OOF is "fancy"....). Both will require that you either get there early (right when they open) or be prepared to wait, but they both have entertainment and activities (as well as adult beverages) to help pass the time during the busy season.

BTW, another good breakfast choice is Tide Me Over, right at the resort. They have great breakfast sandwiches and French toast, etc. You can either eat out at the picnic tables overlooking the marsh or bring your breakfast back to your villa. I would recommend calling ahead to place your order, as it sometimes takes a while. :rolleyes1 For us, once we've placed that order and see the food coming out for other guests, the wait is difficult! ;)

Hi! We visited Disney's HHI resort over the Easter weekend. Family includes 4 children ages 6-15. My girls loved the chicken fingers and ice cream stand at Marley's Ocean Grill. They may even have a live reggae band playing. San Miguels and Little Venice were both family friendly. Antonio's was more formal.

We ate lunch at Guissieppe's, Wild Wings Cafe, Salty Dog, and at the resort.
Mellow Mushroom was also good for pizza. I do regret not eating in Harbourtown as we saved this for the end of our vacation but then had to change plans due to a stomach virus! I had heard that there are several good restaurants right on the water with pretty sunset views.

We had fun, hope you do too.

One other thought, you might want to call for the rec schedule the week before you go as the times of the evening activities may impact your reservation times and choice of location of restaurant. Some evening activities started at 7 so we opted to eat later those nights. Some families with little kids probably would eat earlier.

We went over spring break and I'm going what most guys on here are saying, but we were just not that impressed with Old Oyster Factory's food. Maybe it was what we got.
Nice view though.

Ate breakfast at Stacks one morning and it was really good.
Kids had breakfast from Tide Me Over and they liked it a lot, esp. the french toast.

We all loved San Miguels, but we all love Mexican. The second night we ate there, there was a guy singing and it was so nice. Great Cadillac Margaritas!!!
There is a Cracker Barrel close by like someone said. I also aagree with one of the other posts about Salty Dog's food, but it was fun going there and into the shops, going to the live cam and looking at the doggie pics that have been sent in. We are sending our dog's pic. in with her new bandana!
