Hi,

I've been looking online at the Video Now Jr. I ordered some Christmas stuff on Hasbro.com for 20% off with free shipping (FALL25), and saw it there. We have a nice portable DVD player, but I think it would be easier with two. Our older boys (7 and 5) want to watch their movie, and my toddler wants to watch another (or they're not all sitting close enough together in the car or plane to all see one screen). Would my toddler like the Video Now Jr? I thought the screen looked TINY online; is it big enough? I like that it looks sturdy and DS1 can hold it. Is it annoying to buy the special DVDs for it?

Looking for all opinions! We can't justify the cost of buying another portable DVD player, but I am willing to pay for the Video Now Jr if it will help. We have 8 hours of airplane time each way in Dec, and can use all the help we can get!

We had the original color video now, and frankly, I wouldn't buy another. The screen is VERY small and the picture wasn't very clear. Also, it only plays "video now" dvd's not standard dvd's. There are some "toddler friendly" portable dvd players out there.

My 3 year old loves his video now player. We keep it away except for special times (ie when we need him to be quiet and/or still). I like that it only takes special disks, then it truely is his and I know what he is watching is kid friendly. The screen is small, but he holds it in front of him and is big enough for him.

Check your local Big Lots, mine has some players on the rack/shelf behind the return register. Ebay has a lot of the disks right now pretty cheap (ack I have some I bought and am not going to get much for them).

Well ours was fun when it first arrived...but now not so much play time from my 4 year old. The screen is really really small and it eats batteries. I don't know if I would buy it. Honestly my older guys don't even watch the movies they sell for the PSP or the Nintendo systems. They prefer to watch the car dvd player. But I may buy some new movies for the video now to try and get it back into rotation for wait times at restaurants ect...

I bought 2 after christmas last year for 5 bucks each, and I got them 6 movies (hasbrotoysale) each already for this christmas..cheap gift for them so if they don't play with it my feelings won't be terribly hurt.

I got one last year for my then 2 year old. I paid 5.00 too through Amazon I believe.

Anyway I like it. My DD has beaten on it and it still works. She doesn't use it so much anymore mostly because she has seen all the episode discs we have for it. That is a huge downfall. I wish it played standard DVD's.

And as another poster said it does kill batteries.

The screen is tiny, the picture isn't great but my 2 year old liked it.

If its for a very young child, 4 and under I think it was great for $5.00. I don't know what they cost usually but I probably wouldn't pay more than $25-$30 for it.

my 21 month old dd LOVES ever since I found a Barney and Wiggles disc at our local TRU for it............

It did magically stop working, and I emailed Hasbro and they sent me a replacement for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WIth the hasbro toy 25% off code floating around on the boards FALL 25, I ordered her another wiggles disk for $3.74................

Can't wait to get it.................

the screen is tiny, but my dd LOVES it, perfect for quick car trips.........longer trips and meals in restaurants I bring our portable dvd player............

I too would like to hear about toddler friendly dvd players............

DD liked hers at first......but the picture is not very good at ALL. And if they watch it for any longer than 10 minutes, it could really cause eye strain. It's definitely not what you would get on an iPod or a portable DVD player. We don't use hers at all anymore.......luckily our van has one built in.

Since my DS is almost 5 now, we really don't use it anymore. We got it the very first year they were out and they were $60!!!!!! He used it for a while and we take it with us on trips. I STILL take it with me, although he'd rather use his Leapster now. I will probably let DD use it once she's old enough...she's only 16 months now!

For the price that's offered now, I say GO FOR IT! I don't think you want to spend upward of $100 on a DVD player and for a toddler, this thing is GREAT. It does really take a beating, too. The screen is small, but then again so are they. They will be able to see it PERFECTLY.

GO FOR IT! :thumbsup2

:cool1: We got 1 for our ds at Walmart for only $15 :thumbsup2 he loves it. When we go for a long trip he just has to bring it. The only thing is that it is hard to find the movies that go with it :crazy2: .

We bought ours at Wal-Mart a year ago- the bonus pack with the player, case, and 2 discs was $39, I think.
We bought another one for dd to eliminate the squabbling.. don't remember how much but it was around the same amount, I think.
We like them, but like another poster said, they EAT batteries- it's really crazy. We only use them once in a great while, so it's not too much of a problem.
I need to stock up on some new discs for our trip, though!

Also- I'd love to buy another player- if anyone sees them for a great deal, please please come back and report where you saw it :) Thanks!

I use rechargable batteries in ours, costs more initially, but I always have 3 charged batteries ready to go!
