Just wanted opinions to see if it's even worth a call to the school. My dd broke her ankle in Feb. so was out of gym for most of that semester. She recieved an MD(medical excuse) for that quarter. Anyway, today her last report card came and she did great but the counted that gym quarter as a 0. The other quarters she recieved a 95, 100 and 100. That 0 brought her average down to a 74-added to her other final grades that brought her average for the year down to a 94.5 which is .5 short of high honor roll. If they had just averaged the 3 quarters that she got graded on her average would have been 96.2. It just doesn't seem right to me that she got a 0 for breaking a bone:confused3 Anyway, she's moving on to high school so I guess this report card doesn't even matter but it just bugs me. I should just forget it right? I already told her how proud we are. She said she doesnt care if I call or email. Opinions?

It's probably the computer that averages all 4 and counts the MD as a 0. I would email, and they'll probably manually adjust the report card.

If she doesn't care, I would forget it. Middle school report cards are not going to keep her from attending the college of her choice.

I would call.

Something similar happened to my DD in 3rd grade, and while it wasn't going to affect her college application ;) it was still an error. I questioned it very politely, and honestly the teacher was more upset about it than I was, even though it was just a computer error. DD and I both were happy to have it corrected. :thumbsup2

I agree with this. While it is a bummer, it won't have any affect on her education in the future, so I wouldn't bother going to the trouble of trying to get it changed.

I am usually one of those who says don't call, but in this case, I would. It sounds like an error to me, and it should be corrected. And if a MD typically results in a zero for the marking period, your DD should have been given the opportunity to do some alternative work.

Good luck.

If it doesn't make a difference in which classes she can choose in high school, then I would probably just let it go. But if she's not eligible for advanced or honor classes because of that, then I would make an inquiry.

I would at least make a call to see if there is an error. You may find one phone call can clear it up.

If you don't it will bug you forever.:lmao:

I would want to know if I made a mistake. Call and talk to someone at the school, the teacher may not even know this happened.

We switched to a new online grading system in January of this past school year and now I don't see the final grades until my kids get their report cards. I had to write more than one note on report cards the third quarter because something had gone screwy and half my class ended up with F's in science!

I would just call the school and ask what happened. It may have been a screw-up along the lines of what happened with my class.
