Need opinions on Artists Point and Narcoossee's

The last 2 signature places for us to try, I managed to get ressies for both for our Oct trip

Please give me your good, bad and ugly on these!

1st off, I love to read your dining reviews, so I will be eager to hear what you think of both places.

Narcoosee's is a must do for us. We enjoy the low lighting, the casual elegance to the restaurant and the view (although seeing the fireworks is tricky since a lot of diners without a fireworks view table go outside and stand by the railing, thus blocking your view).

As for service, sometimes we have OUTSTANDING servers. They are very knowledgeable of the menu, the specials, wine pairings etc. And while we have never had bad service, we have had service that is very average. What I mean by that is a server who is neither chatty nor informative. The waitress we had last year on my birthday would answer any questions with a 1 to 2 word response and offered no opinions/suggestions on the specials, wine list etc. That being said, our food was delivered promptly and our water glasses always filled, so it wasn't a bad meal by any means! (And she did bring me a piece of the almond crusted cheesecake as a special birthday treat, which surprised me immensely since she made no mention of my birthday the entire evening to that point. And to be honest, once you start to get older, that is fine with me! )

We do tend to notice more children around for the earlier seatings (but there will definitely still be some around for the later ones as well, and in our experience, those tend to be the crabby ones too! NO FLAMES PLEASE!!)

As for the food, I tend to stick with the filet (and it is divine) while DH and DS go for the seafood. They also enjoy a nice calamari appetizer that the chef's have always been willing to sautee in lieu of fried/breaded. And as mentioned above, that cheesecake is AMAZING!!!

We really like Artist Point. Food and service has been consistently good for us. In the last year or so, I have read some less than stellar reports but that hasn't been our experience. I would (and will) go back without hesitation.



Narcoosee's didn't rate as highly for us. We've only been there once, but haven't felt compelled to go back. We keep saying we should give it another try, but then don't.

Maybe they were having an off night, but service was iffy. Not bad, just lacking- disinterested, maybe? We didn't get a good vibe because of whatever "it" was. The food was okay, but when added to the overall experience- not good enough for a return. Others have given it high scores, so who knows?

We like that Artist Point offers some interesting choices that are unique to this restaurant. If you like salmon, I would recommend trying that. Although I'm not a fan of that particular fish, they do it right here. Also, they have one of my favorite desserts, the berry cobbler. A nice change from tbe creme brulee every place else offers. The views before sunset are gorgeous but I'm not a fan of the rustic charm decor here.

Narcoosees is my least favorite of all of the signatures (it used to be nicer many years ago but the popularity of this place has made it crowded and noisy). I was really disappointed in the lobster, both the whole and the surf and turf. The fresh fish I had was good but not as good as Flying Fish (and not even close to bluezoo) IMO. The views are gorgeous here but the noise level on our last two visits have made the place lose its charm.

I'm anxious to hear more opinions on Artist Point also. We will be having our 40TH wedding Anniversary dinner there. It is one of the restaurants we have not been to yet.I hope we've made a good choice. We have eaten at Narcoossee's. It has been a couple of years now, but I know we enjoyed our meal there a lot and we had great service. It has been long enough now that I can't remember exact details now, like what each of us had to eat, but I know we will go back again.

We've only booked AP for the first time this upcoming trip, so no opinions there.

As for Narcoossee's, both DH and I enjoyed ourselves very much when we visited last year, and have booked it again for this year. I enjoyed everything I had - mussels (fresh and plentiful), lobster (and that potato gratin...to die for) and almond-crusted cheesecake (swoon!). DH barely came up for air when sucking down the shrimp chowder and also had the cheesecake for dessert. He wasn't *quite* pleased with his filet - he said just yesterday as we were reviewing our choices for this trip that he felt as if he'd gotten an "end" piece or something...it was not in keeping with filets he's eaten in the past (and he's eaten a lot of them). So he'll be choosing something different this time around.

Still he was as happy as I with the food on the whole and service (very attentive though I do remember the guy having no sense of humor, he was sort of blah) and we're both really looking forward to our return.

We enjoy both restaurants. I'm not a lobster fan, but the servers at Narcoosee have never had a problem with me switching the scallops for the lobster on the Surf & Turf. I adore their almond cheesecake. I haven't really found an appetizer worth repeating there though. The best I've had is probably their calamari. Service is hit or miss--not bad really, just disinterested maybe.

At Artist Point I love their mushroom soup or mussels for appetizers and buffalo for entree (although their salmon is very good also). I used to love their berry cobbler, but when we were there this past Dec they had changed it and it wasn't near as good (came with a different ice cream, was much smaller, not half as many berries, no lemon drizzle, and was very, very dry). My husband got their fig clafouti that was very good though. Their berries in muscrat wine was a gelatin type dessert that was just plain nasty. All three of us tried a bite, and none liked it. We love their wine flats here though.

Artist Point is usually quieter than Narcoosee, but we enjoy both.

We've been to both and will return to both. At Narcoosee's we had the mussels and the Green Goddess Salad which was great but appears not to be on the menu any longer. I loved the Sunken Treasure Cocktail. Our entrees were the crab crusted Mahi Mahi and the tuna. We didn't consider ordering lobster because we go to Maine often and get outstanding lobster there for less than half of the cost at Narcoosee's. Our server was very pleasant and professional and we felt very well cared for. The atmosphere may be a little loud because the restaurant floors and walls are basically wood and the noise seems to bounce. Not unpleasant to us.
Artist's Point was also a lovely evening for us. DBF had the buffalo and enjoyed it. I had the salmon. I was not pleased with the side that went with the salmon. It was some kind of bread pudding but was very dry. I see that it is no longer on the menu. I also had the Smokey Portobello Soup. It was good, but not as outstanding as I expected (I think part of my issue was that I'm not overly fond of smoked foods.) The berry cobbler was excellent for dessert. Service was also excellent. During dessert our server encouraged us to out onto the balcony to see the Electrical Water Pageant.
In short I think you will enjoy both restaurants. Have fun. I look forward to your reviews!

We ate at Narcoosee's in June and really enjoyed it. The GF resort is beautiful, and it was neat to see the castle in MK from outside the restaurant.

Our food was delicious! I ordered the filet, my husband had the whole lobster, and son had the surf and turf. We were all very happy with our meals and would definitely return.

Our server was okay. We had an early ADR and she was attentive early on, but as the restaurant filled up, we saw less and less of her. Took forever to finally get our check. But this can happen at any restaurant, and would not keep me from returning.
