Need opinion on our future sons name...

DH and I are at odds as to what to name our new baby boy. Hi top name to choose is Miller...which I'm not too sure about. (I don't want him to be labled into the frat boy that supplies the keg before he's even born!) Any thoughts to this name? We don't mind unusual names, but I think that might be too unusual. Any thoughts, pros or cons? Please be HONEST...I can take it.

PS - no middle name yet...it's bad enough we can't get the first name down!!

Hi!

As a teacher, I would not use a name that is traditionally a last name as a first name. It gets too confusing.

I'm sure others will tell you to go ahead, but that's just my opinion.

I usually like last names for first names, but that one is a little much. And yeah the "Miller Time" reference seems just inapropriate.

Maybe as a middle name? Is it a family name?

No, it's not any reference to family at all. There has been a discussion in our family that because DH, DD and I all have names that start w/ "M" that our next child has to be an "M" name too. (Believe me, that's a whole other thread that I already posted about!) Someone came up with Miller one night as a joke, and DH took to it.

I just don't want him to be made fun of!

I don't like the last name for a first name thing either, especially a common last name like Miller. My maiden name was Schmidt and there were MANY beer references made about my name (when there was a Schmidt beer). I hated it. I like it as a middle name.

Oh, and don't name him Talon either, just in case you are thinking about that. Someone in our town named their son that and all I can think of is the talons on a falcon. Sorry, DUMB name in my opinion (right up there with HenryAnn like I posted about last week).

Trust me, the M thing really has me in a bind. I personally don't think we need an M name (actually I'd prefer not to!) but Dh really wants one.

As far as Miles - Our neighbors dog is named Miles, and Mitch is an uncle of mine, and it just reminds me of an older man. (does that make sense?)

I think it will set him up for a long life of bad jokes about "Miller Time". But way better that the name a friend of ours has chosen - Jester. She hasn't asked my opinion, I'm just hoping she re-thinks it a bit before her due date!

I go with traditional, Michael. Good strong name.

Matthew is DH brother's name, and he doesn't want to name him after him. The runner up to Miller is Mason, which I can deal with, but sounds a little funny with our last name, and might be pretty popular (we have that problem now with Madison.)

Another M name if u really have to go with M is Martin, or Martijn.

We have some friends with a son named Braxton, like Braxton Hicks contractions, Jester is along those lines, POOR KID! Why do parents think it is cool and sophisticated to give their kids stupid names that the poor kid will have to live with for the rest of their life????? We have some other friends that have named their boys after Baseball equipment manufacturers, Easton and Macray, oh, there is an M name for you.

Ok, I looked at a name your baby website and you are right, M names for boys are really hard. Maybe something more traditional like Matthew or Michael or Max?
